August, & How to Travel on Spirit Airlines.

It has been a whirlwind summer, but today I am thankful AND grateful that we got to celebrate my dad’s birthday this morning, after a scare in June. Overall this whole year has been a medical nightmare for our family, and I am hopeful that we are out of the woods for now!

Hard to believe two and half months ago he was in the ICU waiting on a team of neurologists to decide how to operate on the cyst in his brain and drain the excess fluid!

My daughter seems to be better as well, back in February she collapsed at school and experienced temporary paralysis, which was made worse by the poor handling of the situation. We were forced to make some difficult decisions regarding schooling, and this past week was week 1 of a “new schedule” for my remaining school aged children. It’s more parental involvement, but I know my kids will be safe, well educated, and as a parent I couldn’t really ask for much more than that! One of many reasons my blog has been a place of neglect this year!

However I haven’t stopped shopping nor wearing dresses. Still a bit obsessed with Kate Spade (I post a lot on Instagram too). Some recent aquisitions:

This guy is quite a gem too:

The detail on this bag is amazing, I know I love my typewriter bag, but this one takes the cake!  As a baker, well, I’m partial to anything with a French macaron on it.

I recently took a trip to Minesota to pick my oldest son up from summercamp, and had the misfortune of flying Spirit airlines. (Never again!) When you find out 48hrs before your trip that they charge for a carry-on, you get creative! I managed to pack for the whole weekend into one small “personal item”, including the cafe handbag. Some photos:

Just before we landed I unpacked into my handbag and switched my shoes:

I rolled all my clothes and put them in air-tight ziplock bags. In that bag was:

Two cardigans (I wore my big heavy one over my dress, looking very bag lady like!), jeans, sandals, pjs, one dress, one belt, two t-shirts, undergarments, sandals, toiletries, makeup, handbag, phone charger and my noise cancelling headphones. For me to pack that light is quite a miracle! But I just couldn’t justify paying $65 to bring a carryon with me. It became a bit of a challenge!

Here’s some photos, right across the lake is Canada. My son went to Camp Kooch-I-Ching in International Falls, MN. It’s a boys camp, but there is a girl’s sister came somewhere! (They never see each other)

The Coffee Landing, they roast their beans in their front window! They even have mail order. Mmmmmm.

Also hit the Mall of America:

I had last visited when it was 2 years old, and this month they celebrated 25 years! It seemed much bigger back then, I have to say! Lots of back to school shopping was going on when we were there.

Gearing up for the end of summer, and fall is just around the corner. I hope to blog a bit more, once I get into the swing of life.

Until next time,

Jules

Weekend Recap

Whew, what a crazy 3-days I have had! Every April my husband and I head up to Las Vegas for a conference. Always fun to see friends and gain some wisdom from the great John Maxwell.

And of course have fun dressing up Vegas-Style! Going out of town is always so hard for me, I always tend to overpack. This year I really worked to pare down and plan my wardrobe, with one backup ensemble (that I ended up not wearing). Major improvement from the 8 outfits and 7 pairs of shoes I packed last year!!! I also carried my Kate Spade Wise Owl Quinn all weekend (again, another improvement!)

My “travel” outfit I wore on the trip up:

For Friday night I changed into this:

On Saturday I failed to take a photograph. However, it was the inaugural wearing of the infamous Pink Dress. Let me just say, this was a crazy crazy aquisition. The original one is actually on it’s way back to Kate Spade. Why you ask?! It had a wretched odor. To make a super long story short I do now own said Roset dress, but it was a hassle!! This one doesn’t have the smell (which was a cross between pesticide and mothballs!), and I will be very careful when ordering a dress from the online department depending on the fabric. I think it’s the plastic they have them stored in. But, regardless, I do own it, and I must say, it’s gorgeous!!! My favorite compliment was “I just have to tell you, your dress makes me SO happy!”. So while I can’t recommend ordering this dress online, if you can find it in a store, go for it!!!

The photos I did take:

And to church this morning, I repurposed the Mariella dress, adding in my Montana strass Christian Louboutin pumps:

And my final outfit for the weekend (and what I’m wearing on the trip home):

Shoes: Christian Louboutin Montana strass heels (done by me)

And because I was feeling lucky I tossed $5 into a slot machine, and then later put that $5 on red at a roulette table (which I’ve always wanted to do! Something so James Bond about that!!!! Of course I’m too cheap to bet a fortune, but it was fun!)

And the ball landed on red! The guy at the table asked me what I was going to do with my winnings, and I gleefully replied “cash them in!” And giggled, and sort of twirled. Hey, I was super excited!! It was only $5, but it was a win!! I think he was perplexed, but then again most people are perplexed by me! (Including myself!!) I did however buy my husband lunch. Big spender! But it was the experience, and as I’m not a big gambler, it was easy to walk away.

A good weekend. Sadly traffic is a huge snarl on the I-15, and I fear this is the 5-hour trip home VS the normal 3-3.5.

Sigh. Oh well. At least I got a free lunch! Hope your weekend was fabulous!!!!

Until next time,

Jules
