I realize for many of you in the US, you are having a BRUTAL winter season. However here in sunny Southern California, daytime temperatures are hitting high 70’s and low 80’s. Standing in the sun? Feels like high 80’s! While I envy those of you who get to bundle up and wear beautiful coats, I do enjoy wearing spring/summer clothing pretty much year round! Which I did that today!

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Hazy Floral
  2. Shoes: Manolo Blahnik

I did have a cardigan when I left at 7am, but by 8:15 I was over it. It was such a gorgeous day!

Until next time,

Mid Week

How is it Wednesday already?! Yikes!! I wasn’t feeling well Monday, and so I took a proper sick day. I stayed in bed and binge read a book series. It was wonderful! Yesterday was back to work…and so I pulled out some bright cheery colors!

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade (outlet 2-3 years ago)
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade (tracked this down in a secondhand store in La)
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin
  4. Handbag: Kate Spade

And then today:

  1.  Cardigan: INC (but old, off the Desperate Housewives set…as is my dress)
  2. Dress: Tracy & Michael
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Manolo Blahnik (found these for under $50 at Last Call over the weekend)

I’ve been making lots of these again this week:

Until next time,

It’s Friday!

I am super excited about today, it’s the last Friday of the school year!

First what I wore yesterday:

Top: Kate Spade
Skirt: JCrew
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, painted and Strassed by me

Yesterday I was home catching up on some household tasks (ugh!), and also putting the finishing touches on a special cake. You see, the ROTC kids had asked if I would give my assistance in obtaining a cake for the senior send-off party today. (Thrown by the Juniors, whom have all had finals this week) My intention had been to simply order and purchase a Costco cake.

And then the guilt set in. How could I, a cake maker BUY a cake?! Not to mention, I simply didn’t want to run over there this week. So, I threw this together (and then realized how much BETTER it could have been if I had planned ahead. Oh bother, I have a serious “go big or go home” problem!!):

Needless to say it was a huge hit. I received a crazy voice-mail from about 30 screaming teenagers. Highlight of my day until that point! The best part? The inside of the cake was a dark blue. As in Air Force blue. Of course only one person beside me knew that until it was cut open. And to appeal to the age group? The filling was Oreo buttercream. Mmmmm!

I also lived up to my honorary “title” of “Major Sparkles” for delivery this morning:

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade Simply Cinema Olivia
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, painted and Strassed by me
Handbag: Kate Spade

Such a great group of kids, I’m excited for those graduating, and wish them all the best. (And realize in 3 years I will have a son graduating!! Eeks!!)

Hope your weekend is grand! I’m spending the next two weekends running kids around, oh my!

Until next time,

It’s Thursday Already?!

This week is flying by!! Anyway, a quick recap, I am keeping up with my “dress a day in may”, except I will have to break it for Saturday, as I realized I don’t have any appropriate dresses that are grey! (Our team colours for Relay for Life) In fact, my lone grey dress is my wedding gown! (It’s more of a cocktail dress, but still)

Cardigan: Old Navy
Dress: Target
Belt: Old Navy
Shoes Manolo Blahnik (I rarely wear them as they aren’t terribly comfortable)

And today:

Dress: Calvin Klein (5+ years old!)
Shoes: Kate Spade

And that’s it for today. I’m back to slaving in the kitchen, cupcakes, cake pops, and white chocolate macadamia cookies are on the “schedule” tonight. Along with some peach ice cream for my kids & husband. Mmmmmm.

Until next time,

Hooray for Friday!!

I must admit, I’m not normally the “TGIF” type person, but this week? Totally!

Anyway, I wore this today:

Cardigan: Target (little girls’ section. I bought my daughter a matching one! This is a 10/12, their clothing seems to run quite large!)
Skirt: Anthropologie, but I bought secondhand
Shoes: Strassed Manolos I did earlier this year

And then I came home to a package! Last week a company, Corilynn was having a sale. I couldn’t resist. This skirt CALLED my name! The length, the fact that the size I ordered is my waist measurements exactly. It was magic. And then it arrived:

The anchors just make my day!! I’m super excited to style this skirt, soooo many possibilities!

Here’s a close up of the fabric, it has a really neat underlying print that wasn’t noticeable on the website:

So very very pleased! I especially live the length, as I’m sure y’all realize, I tend to gravitate towards a skirt/dress that covers my knees. This is a personal preference for me, I just feel since I have a son in high school (and a rapidly growing up daughter!), I should set a good example! It makes me sad to see these young girls wearing all these skimpy clothes, when a more classic dress would be so much more flattering! Plus I mean, really, some things should be kept, ahem, private. There is just too much skin and provocative temptations in our society!!

Okay, off my soapbox. I have cupcakes to make tonight and I should probably get cracking. First order of 2014! Luckily it’s a small one, as January/February is so crazy at my job (tax season), adding big events/orders isn’t smart. Why stress myself out?

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Until next time,

Friday Recap

Just a quick recap of some outfits this past week. I shall start with today, as I pulled out what seems to have become my “go-to” ensemble for funerals. Happily today was a lovely occasion, celebrating the long full life of the most incredible woman. I was touched greatly by the stories shared and the memories that flew through my brain. My father gave the most lovely service!

Anyway, I wore this, and added the hat for the graveside. California provided perfect weather, 70-ish in January!

Hat: Vintage (garage sale!)
Jacket: Target
Brooch: vintage
Blouse: Kohls
Skirt: Saks Fifth Avenue (Vintage, Thrifted)
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simple

In addition to the ceremony, my father also played his harp in the cemetery and my daughter sang the song my grandmother had requested. She (my grandmother) truly was the most inspiring woman ever.

Some other outfits this past week:

Cardigan: Grace Elements (Ross)
Blouse: Nanette Lepore
Skirt: French Connection
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simples

Necklaces: Kate Spade
Cardigan: Ann Taylor
Blouse: Nanette Lepore
Skirt: J Crew
Shoes: Strassed Manolo Blahniks

Cardigan: Grace Elements (Ross)
Dress: Trina Turk (Thrifted)
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Strassed Manolo Blahniks
Handbag: Kate Spade

In other news, we had some lovely meals this week:

Stuffed Chicken Breasts & Green Beans sautéed in butter & garlic

Filet Mignon, Green Beans & Scalloped Potatoes (from scratch)

Viewed several lovely sunsets, but only managed to capture this one:

All in all, a lovely week. Looking forward to the weekend, as next week the kids go back to school and well, it’s tax season, so it’s crazy! Ah, the perils of being a grown up!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time,

First post of 2014

Wow, 7 days in 2014, and I am FINALLY returning to my sadly neglected blog. In my defense, I have been fighting an upper respiratory infection since before Christmas, so I’ve been resting when not working or running kids around. I did spend the first day of the year in PJs doing nadda! Even now my Christmas decor is still up.

Anyway, to recap some outfits I’ve thrown together this year:

Cardigan: Ann Taylor
Dress: Anthropologie
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Necklace: Juicy Couture

(All clothing items Thrifted)
Cardigan: Elle
Blouse: Nanette Lepore
Skirt: Ruth
Shoes: Strassed Manolo Blahniks (more below about these!!)

And this outfit I repeated, I loved the combo so much!

Necklace: Target
Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Calvin Klein
Shoes: Strassed Manolo Blahniks
Handbag: Kate Spade

In addition to feeling poorly, I also managed to pull something in my neck. Partly from how I was sleeping, and partly from completing my most recent project in less than two days. (Hey, I was determined to finish them!!)

Before, plain gold Manolos (in need of some tlc)

After being painted with several different colours:

Progress shots:

I used the following stone colours:

Crystal AB
Green Tourmaline
Fuchsia AB
Light Sapphire AB
Light Rose AB
Tanzanite AB

I am so very pleased with how they turned out. I have another pair of Manolo flats in the same general shape that I am thinking of doing something similar but different on. Haven’t decided. I do have plans to do a crystal AB heel this year, as I do not have one yet. We shall see.

I have placed myself on a strict no-buy for this month (fashion-related), however I did cheat yesterday a wee bit. But it was a vintage item I bought to resell, so I could not resist. Otherwise I am staying out of thrift shops and OFF eBay (with the exception of selling items!!!). It’s time to streamline a bit!

Keep your eyes out, I have a really fun giveaway planned for later in the month!

Until next time,
