Loyal Kate Spade Girl

I know it’s obvious I’m a HUGE Kate Spade fanatic. I mean, yeah. But I don’t always discuss WHY. Well, here’s one “why”! Today my husband and I ran out to Palm Springs to drop off 3 of the kiddos (who are quite blessed by my parents taking them on a 5-day cruise!), and OF COURSE it included a stop at both the outlet in Desert Hills AND the regular store down in the El Paseo shopping district.

I found this gem at the outlet (which I hadn’t planned on buying anything, just returning some extra pieces I didn’t need after all)

A balloon keychain/bag charm! The full collection hits on January 7, but there are bits and pieces out at some outlets! The bottom of the “basket” says “Let It Go”. Disney meets Kate Spade?! YES PLEASE! Puffy was thrilled to have a friend today.

But then we hit El Paseo….now I have to admit upfront I didn’t buy much today, as I’m trying to downsize a bit vs buying “everything” (meaning every single dress Kate Spade makes), but I did try some pieces on (no photos…WHOOPS!). No winners, but the experience was AWESOME! I finally saw this guy in person for my phone, and couldn’t resist:

But wait, there’s more! This magic was also in the bag:

And THIS right here is why I am a loyal Kate Spade customer. Goodies from the Sunday morning events in December I couldn’t attend? (Oh why isn’t there a specialty closer to my house?! 70 miles minimum!) A Christmas card AND a cookie from NYE?! YES PLEASE!!!! This just made my night when we got home and I opened it all. I was unable to visit a specialty location before Christmas due to schedule constraints, but the extra goodies in my little shopping bag made me feel like I was there somehow! This is why I love Kate Spade, why I shop there, the level of customer service is just top notch. I’ve only had 1 or 2 not so wonderful experiences, in over 15 years of shopping the brand. In comparison, we walked through Saks Fifth Ave this evening, and my husband remarked that the sales associate who approached us looked relieved when I said I was “just looking”. Ugh. I won’t even discuss the awful Anthropologie experience in the same shopping district! Nope, we will focus on the amazingness that is Kate Spade….THANK YOU El Paseo girls! Y’all have a special place in our hearts, that store is where my husband bought the “dress that started it all”, a black silk/cotton blend Emma dress lined in pink silk. Two years ago to be exact! And from there, I went from a handful of Kate Spade dresses to, ahem, “I refuse to admit publicly how many it really is”.
I wore this today:

  1. Cardigan: Chaps (Kohls, 3-4 years ago)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade (one of the first dresses I ever purchased!)
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed in Montana
  5. Necklace: Kate Spade

I also carried my blue small Rachelle bag. I know the Rachelle style is an outlet-only one, but it really is my favorite handbag! Well, I do adore the Quinn, but they haven’t released the larger Quinn bags in almost 2 years. I have one small Quinn, but it’s just not the same!

Here’s to a wonderful 2016, and here’s to me cutting back on excessive shopping and perhaps taking a proper vacation. Oh heck, I’d rather spend the money on shoes. Oops.

Until next time,

Christmas in Review

Wow, Christmas 2015, it’s over already?! I admit to staying in my PJs ALL DAY yesterday, it was glorious!!!! We stay home on Christmas, so there was lots of cooking going on here. My schedule has been so packed, I didn’t even finish wrapped until nearly 2am Christmas morning. OOPS!

We actually scaled way back on gifting this year….instead of the normal 15-20 packages, the kids had about 6 each. We sort of followed the “4 things” idea, but I also do “food boxes” for my boys, they love that!!

Christmas Eve we went to my aunt’s house, and I wore this: (after baking 8 pies & countless cookies that morning!)

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Olsen
  2. Belt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed by me

Yes, a new pair of strassed heels! I actually have some projects I am supposed to be working on, but I got the inspiration for these and I couldn’t stop once I started! The shoes were a grey metallic leather to begin with, and I used silver shade, alexandrite, black diamond, Crystal lagoon, and Crystal viridian (all preciosa, except the silver shade). The way these catch the light is INSANE!

Hopefully the video above loads okay! First time I have uploaded one since I upgraded my blog!

Some other highlights from the past week:

 Monday….normal working mom day!

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Secondhand
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Wednesday to attend church (as I didn’t get dressed on Tuesday!)

  1.  Cardigan: Banana Republic (I have 2 or 3 of these!)
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade
  4. Pearls: Thrifted

And finally today, I took my daughter shopping (wasn’t horrible!)

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic (hey, it’s cold and it’s long sleeves!!)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade (they are super comfortable!)

The cats went out to shop too:

Hope your Christmas was Merry & bright! I’m looking forward to 2016, it’s shaping up to be a very busy and rewarding year!

Happy Holidays!

Dress A Day In May

Ooooo, I had forgotten about this fun little thing for May, where you wear “a dress a day”!! A bunch of gals on Instagram did it last year, and I joined in (but I mean…that’s normal for me anyway, right?!), and so yesterday kicked off 2015’s #DADIM on Instagram! Today I went for it with GUSTO, wearing TWO dresses!

Started the day in this…leaving at 5:30am to go pick up my husband’s car (it had a recall), and then popping up to the outlets with my teenager who needs just a few more hours of driving time before he takes his test at the end of the month!

  1. Dress: Kate Spade (picked up during Saks’ Friends & Family sale….its a 0, which I’m actually glad about because of getting it on/off. A 00 would fit properly, but I could see struggles to get it off!!)
  2. Belt: came with the dress (but ohhhh the possibilities of belts with this dress! All those fun colours!!)
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin

I then changed after we got home, as the temperature had gotten out of control, and the balloon dress is a VERY heavy fabric. I pulled out an oldie but one of my favorites…the fabric is so light and airy, yet does NOT fly up in the wind!

  1.  Dress: Lela Rose for Target/Neiman Marcus (which you can find this on eBay for less than $15 WITH SHIPPING!!!)
  2. Necklace: Kate Spade (on sale here )
  3. Belt: Kate Spade, Navy Glitter (pops up on Nordstrom in the sale section from time to time…)
  4. Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, Strassed by me, but I ended up wearing the Nina Jellies (also strassed by me) in the last photo above.

I made some tiered cake/dessert plates:

Also working on ice cream cakes for the May birthday boys!! (Two on Monday, and the youngest later in the month)

My homemade mint chocolate (made with Godiva truffles)  ice cream wih mint chocolate marbled cake, and chocolate buttercream. Hopefully they won’t be too disappointed it’s not from Baskin-Robbins!

Until next time,

Cheers! It’s Friday! I hauled myself up and out the door to run up to the closest Kate Spade outlet for Friends & Family….having realized a couple of weeks ago I actually know one of the Sales Associates!! (And she is awesome….totally awesome.)

My outfit:

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade
  2. Skirt: Claude Brown
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade
  4. Handbag: Kate Spade
  5. Necklace: Kate Spade

Some photos of the new spring items:

And what I purchased:

3 cardigans (what can I say?!), a new iPad case, the coconut coin purse (which the iPad case the the coin purse were my ONLY planned purchases. OOPS!!), a necklace, a sparkly wristlet, and a small cross body, that I’m not sure if I’m keeping. Kind of a long story there!

Anyway…I have been good and I did NOT buy a dress, as I made a pact with someone to go 7 days without buying a dress. Just have to get through tomorrow at midnight!! I haven’t shopped online, I think there is one more necklace I may pick up. But I’m trying to be good. Sigh.

My coin and clutch collection is shaping up quite nicely:

I know, I know. It’s a terrible addiction yall!!! Oh well. I didn’t go into debt and I didn’t break any laws!!

Hope your weekend is wonderful! I’m putting together a pretty fun little cake for a party tomorrow, so it’s gonna be a long night!

Until next time,

Weekend Recap

Whew, what a crazy 3-days I have had! Every April my husband and I head up to Las Vegas for a conference. Always fun to see friends and gain some wisdom from the great John Maxwell.

And of course have fun dressing up Vegas-Style! Going out of town is always so hard for me, I always tend to overpack. This year I really worked to pare down and plan my wardrobe, with one backup ensemble (that I ended up not wearing). Major improvement from the 8 outfits and 7 pairs of shoes I packed last year!!! I also carried my Kate Spade Wise Owl Quinn all weekend (again, another improvement!)

My “travel” outfit I wore on the trip up:

Dress: Kate Spade Mariella
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Kate Spade
Brooch: Vintage (isn’t it ADORABLE?!)

For Friday night I changed into this:

Cardigan: Target
Dress: Kate Spade Emma
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Kate Spade
Necklace: Burlington Coat Factory

On Saturday I failed to take a photograph. However, it was the inaugural wearing of the infamous Pink Dress. Let me just say, this was a crazy crazy aquisition. The original one is actually on it’s way back to Kate Spade. Why you ask?! It had a wretched odor. To make a super long story short I do now own said Roset dress, but it was a hassle!! This one doesn’t have the smell (which was a cross between pesticide and mothballs!), and I will be very careful when ordering a dress from the online department depending on the fabric. I think it’s the plastic they have them stored in. But, regardless, I do own it, and I must say, it’s gorgeous!!! My favorite compliment was “I just have to tell you, your dress makes me SO happy!”. So while I can’t recommend ordering this dress online, if you can find it in a store, go for it!!!

The photos I did take:

Dress: Kate Spade Roset
Necklace: JCrew
Shoes: Kate Spade

And to church this morning, I repurposed the Mariella dress, adding in my Montana strass Christian Louboutin pumps:

And my final outfit for the weekend (and what I’m wearing on the trip home):

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade Emma
Belt: Kate Spade
Necklace: J Crew
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Montana strass heels (done by me)

And because I was feeling lucky I tossed $5 into a slot machine, and then later put that $5 on red at a roulette table (which I’ve always wanted to do! Something so James Bond about that!!!! Of course I’m too cheap to bet a fortune, but it was fun!)

And the ball landed on red! The guy at the table asked me what I was going to do with my winnings, and I gleefully replied “cash them in!” And giggled, and sort of twirled. Hey, I was super excited!! It was only $5, but it was a win!! I think he was perplexed, but then again most people are perplexed by me! (Including myself!!) I did however buy my husband lunch. Big spender! But it was the experience, and as I’m not a big gambler, it was easy to walk away.

A good weekend. Sadly traffic is a huge snarl on the I-15, and I fear this is the 5-hour trip home VS the normal 3-3.5.

Sigh. Oh well. At least I got a free lunch! Hope your weekend was fabulous!!!!

Until next time,

Clamshells! I was asked to do these adorable French Macarons for a baby shower, they are sooooo adorable!!

The pink are strawberry (strawberry creme filling, it’s AMAZING!) and the blue are salted caramel. Mmmm. I am only sorry I didn’t take photos of the process, it was crazy! I made a template and then we traced 96 individuals on parchment paper, then piped on the non-traced side. It was insane. But they came out beautifully!!

My outfit today, another nod to the stripe & glitter theme:

Sweater: Kate Spade
Skirt: Vintage (I have 3 different Navy vintage pencil skirts. But this one has pockets!)
Shoes: Kate Spade

And of course my wise owl Quinn bag was dragged around with me today. I feel like I’m in a bit of a rut, or at least headed that way, clothing wise. I find myself wanting to wear the same 7 things, yet the idea of getting rid of anything is terrifying! Looking back through my blog photos, I seem to go through stages, fashion wise. I’m not an expert, just a gal who likes to wear skirts and dresses. Who started a blog to get OUT of a rut.

And to “prove” I can be crazy mom? I wore pants with socks and glittery keds to a CAMP in the mountains last night:

What you don’t see is my goofy earmuffs, huge fur coat, and of course a huge statement necklace no one could see, because of my scarf. And hot pink gloves. I looks ridiculous, but it was 27 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like 20. The only part of me that got cold were my toes. We went up to visit the ROTC kids and surprise them after a long hard week at camp. My son & husband “bonding” (read: ex Naval Officer learning Air Force swear words. Or so it seemed!!)

Brr. I’m cold just thinking about it! And now I want to go ice skating. Maybe next week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time,

Sunday Whimsy

How do I even describe what I’m wearing today? Glitter, pink, bows, pearls, owls, I mean, where does that even take your mind!! Well, here’s the photos, and while it sounds completely insane, it totally worked. Well, in MY mind. I do not claim to be anything close to a fashion guru, expert, or even remotely “cutting edge”. Just a gal who likes to dress for the imaginary ball.

Yes, I even ventured outside for some photos! Always nice to have the husband home and charming him into shooting a picture or two.

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade Emma in Blush
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Kate Spade
Handbag: Kate Spade (aka “Winky”)
Necklace: unknown, cheapie from Burlington

I can’t believe I waffled on buying Winky. What was I thinking? He is fabulous. So whimsical and fun. Not to mention he has gold, silver AND rose gold accents, which means I can mix metal colours! (Which I do anyway)

One last shot, from Instagram this morning, okay, two, the cardigan I had planned on wearing, but wore my hair loose so switched to the one I ended up wearing. My hair catches in the neck detail.

Have a wonderful Sunday! I’m off and running, have to prepare for the week and get my eldest child prepared to leave for AFJROTC camp tomorrow. Poor kid has no idea. I’m excited for him, it’ll be a good (yet painful!) experience!

Until next time,
