Holiday Parties

Last week I spent much time in my kitchen prepping what I thought was my last batch of French Macarons for the year (turns out I’m baking again this week), packing and prepping to go out of town, and finally heading to Omaha to attend a whirlwind of parties & socializing! I did manage to pull myself together in the middle of it all!

Some outfit recaps:

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Secondhand
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

What I wore to fly home Saturday morning (sadly I failed to snap a photo the day I left!)

  1. Cardigan: Target
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Friday-day I had intended to wear this skirt with a cardigan, but I sadly left planned cardigan at home, and packed this one instead: (also the only flats I packed!)

  1. Sweater: Banana Republic
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Sunday….in a dress I picked up while in Omaha at the outlet in Gretna:

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Necklace: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade

Today….milking the Christmas themed attire:

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic (4 years ago, holiday…its held up quite well!)
  2. Skirt: French Connection
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade

And finally….the two ensembles I packed for the two events we went specifically to Omaha for.

Thursday night, I pulled out the Madison Avenue dress my husband purchased for me earlier this year:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Madison Ave (I still can’t believe we tracked this one down, and in my perfect size!!)
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simples strassed in Crystal AB
  3. Handbag: Kate Spade (AKA The Muppet)

I also dragged my dark mink coat with me, thinking it would be quite cold, but the weather ended up being so mild! It was nice to have, as evenings with the wind were quite chilly.

Friday night was the black tie affair, which I had found out about when we were in Phoenix earlier this year, finding this dress the very next day tucked away in a Dillards sale rack! At first I thought it was maybe Alice & Olivia, but whatever brand it was, I will never know! The tag was gone inside and it just had a generic price tag on it. But the moment I put it on, I knew with the addition of straps and the right belt & accessories it would be spectacular! The belt I found just a couple of weeks ago, the clutch back in November, and the jewlery I already had (necklace & bracelets are all Ben-Amun)

My husband and I had a wonderful time, and I loved my ensemble. The dress also had pockets! Not my typical “sparkly” look, but sometimes one must change it up a bit!  We have one more party to attend later this week, and then I shall put my fancy party wear away for a bit. (Kidding!)

Happy Holidays! Are you ready for them? I’m getting there…I am sorely behind this year though, eeks!

Until next time,

Happy Easter!

This will be brief, it’s been quite a long day. Church, lunch, prepping for the big dinner I made, moving furniture around (and building a bookcase I bought yesterday!), and prepping the household for the dreaded “return to school” tomorrow!! Going back after these long breaks are brutal for the kids. I pretty much kept the same schedule, so 5am won’t be a shocker for me. (They don’t rise until 6…I like quiet time. Okay, let’s face it, I move SLOW in the morning!!)

Anyway, I did pull out an almost entirely new outfit for today!

  1. Cardigan: Tracy Reese (5 years old…I bought this for my husband and I’s wedding reception, May 2010!!)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade Roset in White (I tracked this one down during the surprise sale…they had ONE left in my size at the Georgetown store…the manager was amazing! One day I must visit there!! I’ve always had such fantastic experiences ordering over the phone with any KS shop)
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin (off eBay, last year right around Christmas. First outing for them!)
  4. Bracelet: Ben Amun (eBay)
  5. Earrings: I bought these in 2010 for my wedding.
  6. Sunglasses: Miu Miu
  7. Photo bomber: not sure which kiddos that is! And no, I was NOT driving.

It was so windy today, my hair looked great before I left the house…but by the time I took that photo above, it had been wind blown. It’s spring here in the desert! I had planned to wear a necklace, but my neck is in such agony, I skipped it. I’m such my chiropractor will thank me tomorrow!

I also baked and glazed a ham: (well, it was from Costco…I make an additional glaze though with ginger…sooooo yummy!)

All in all, a wonderful Easter Sunday in my house. Many blessings, much peace, and while I love huge family gatherings, it was actually nice to just have our ragtag group. It was our own special chaos, but I loved every moment of it. I also don’t think I could have done a proper social event today, beyond church.

Tomorrow, back to the grind! Happy Easter! Many blessings on you and yours!!

Fall Break

Yes, you read that right, fall break! Yesterday my kids started their two-week fall break. From what I understand there was quite the cheering going on at their school when that bell rang! Sadly (or perhaps not, as my ears aren’t ringing!!) I was not there to witness that event! I’ve been in Orange County since late Wednesday evening (as in, 11pm!) for a work thing.

But there are perks to my job, running errands in Orange County is way more fun than where we live! We don’t have a whole foods, and that means we don’t see these types of things:

Bacon caramels?! Really?! I bought my husband some.

Finding a new Kate Spade dress I am IN LOVE with, only to find out the smallest size is too big (this was pinned, I am SO sad!!! Hello eBay hunting!!)

Bon-Epi French Macarons:

A new (BRAND NEW! My first ever new pair) pair of Christian Louboutins found at Nordstrom Rack for under $100 (I’m still in shock!!):

And clothing recaps. I’ve been back on a dress kick, probably because it’s super easy and kind of mindless!

Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Jimmy Choo

Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: Thrift
Shoes: Strassed Christian Louboutin flats, made by Redo My Shoe

Yesterday I started in this:

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

And threw this on to go out to dinner last night with my husband (who came down for the weekend. Since I am not going home until middle of next week):

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade Emma
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin (oh why is it so hard to wear a brand new pair out?! I felt guilty!!!!)
Necklace & Bracelet: Ben Amun

Not sure how today is going to go, we seem to be moving slow! No solid plans, just waiting to see if I’m needed (hopefully not!) and working our way towards breakfast. Our hotel has amazing breakfast, mmmmm!

Until next time,

Ouch, it’s hard to believe fall is “officially” here! Of course it still feels like summer where I live, although I haven’t had to run my air conditioning in a few days, which is nice! While I’m ready for fall, I’m still dressing for summer, something required when the high hits the low 90’s!

Sunday I wore this, first time since I fixed the broken zipper!

Dress: Kate Spade Emma Dress
Belt: Made by me
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simples
Necklace: unsigned, picked up at Burlington Coat factory for less than $10
Bracelet: Ben Amun
Handbag: Stuart Weitzman (an it’s a wrap find for under $20!)

I did not receive any assistance from Kate Spade to fix my zipper (which is unfortunate, especially as they have used this color zipper since this dress! I only needed a zipper pull!!!). I ended up hunting down the company who manufactures zipper FOR Kate Spade and got a rose gold zipper pull from them (sadly, it does not have the pretty “bow” pull, but it IS the right colour!) and replaced it myself. Voila! Back in business. Add in a large necklace and wear my hair down and no one will notice the pull is different! (And even then, most people probably wouldn’t know)

Yesterday I wore this, an eBay find I was super excited about as I’ve been hunting for a black Jillian dress in my size for over a year!

Dress: Kate Spade Jillian
Shoes: Kate Spade
Necklace: Kohls

I threw the same dress on this morning to run kids to school. I’m actually headed back home, I’m working from home today, packing (I leave tomorrow for a week out of town), and doing “mommy” duties so my brood doesn’t starve while I’m gone. Food (specifically dinner) is my husbands love language, and so when I have to be gone, I try to make a point of preparing meals that are super easy to heat up and serve. This working mom and having to travel is rough yall!

Hope your week is awesome! My updates will be sporadic the next week or so. Catch me on Instagram (katespadegirlblog) or Twitter (ksgirlblog) for photos of my adventures!

Until next time,

It’s Friday!

Oh my, the week has flown by!!! I took a mini-vacation out to Palm Springs with my assorted children (the funny things stepmoms come up with) on Wednesday, and we got back super late last night. Today I had to work my office job AND meet with potential clients for my event business. Never a dull moment I suppose!

Some outfit recaps! First what I wore Tuesday (which became “take my daughter to work day”)

Cardigan: Kate Spade (off eBay, under $40)
Dress: Kate Spade Corley Dress
Belt: Thrifted ($1)
Shoes: Siam Strassed Jimmy Choo flats (done by me)

Wednesday I did a total outfit repeat, as this particular dress is wind-proof, AND it’s a nice weight for this heat of Palm Springs (where we were headed):

Cardigan: Target
Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Necklace: Ben Amun (under $20 on eBay!)
Handbag: Kate Spade (outlet find earlier this year, under $50)

That afternoon we hit my favorite place, an ice rink! (I’m not picky about WHICH rink, just give me a sheet of ice)

My two favorite brands of “shoes”, Christian Louboutin and Harlick (the brand of skates I’ve always worn. Which these are a new pair I am breaking in. I have blisters y’all! BLISTERS!!!!!).

I also visited this beauty while running through the outlets:

I will be bringing that sparkly wedge home soon, very very soon. Isn’t it divine?! Of course no trip to Palm Springs is complete without a visit to the gals over at Kate Spade on El Paseo. Which is an awesome store. And I found this:

I’m in love. Go see them on Thursdays all summer for the “sip and save”, they have snacks, bubbly water & 15% off your purchase! Score!!

Thursday I didn’t get an outfit shot, but I wore this:

The second photo was taken Thursday, and has the shoes I was wearing.

Dress: Banana Republic (Thrifted)
Shoes: Kate Spade (eBay, $20)

And since we were there, another trip to the rink:

My mini-me was out there, attempting to convince me she NEEDS to be a skater. Until she took a hard fall and decided she was done!

And finally, today. As I stated above, I had to go to work, and meet clients, so I had to manage a somewhat professional look while staying cool in the 100+ degree heat here! And by the way, it was 108 in Palm Springs yesterday, but was SO dry it was nice outside. It was just hot and gross here at home in the high desert today. Go figure!!!

Dress: Kate Spade Gayle Dress (outlet only style. They also have it in orange)
Belt: Kate Spade, off eBay
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Handbag: Kate Spade

Let me tell you, I am sore and tired after all that skating! I have some serious respect for my younger self, who used to spend 5-6 hours a DAY on a sheet of cold unforgiving ice. Wow. I’m enjoying rediscovering muscles I haven’t used in over a decade!

Anyway, that’s all for tonight. I have finally put the finishing touches on the summer giveaway I have been working on, and will post that tomorrow! So excited to share some fun new favorites with my readers!

Until next time,

Summer is Looming

Oh heavens is it HOT today! When we left the house to go to church at 10am, it was already 89 degrees out! I planned for it, as we attended a summer church barbecue after service, but still!!!

I had a unique problem this morning. What I wanted to wear, and what my body allowed me to wear. Meaning: I had to ditch the heels!! But I snapped shots of each ensemble anyway, for fun.

What I wanted to wear:

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Calvin Klein
Belt: Alannah Hill
Shoes: Kate Spade
Necklace: Ben Amun (his jewels are TO DIE FOR!)

Alas, I twisted my hip yesterday walking, and so it’s sore today (hello ice packs! Really it was probably the twisting while walking combined with pushing my body on the ice. My feet forget how out of shape my muscles are when I step on that ice!!). So I swapped a few pieces on my outfit:

Cardigan: Tracy Reese (4+ years old)
Dress: Calvin Klein
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Nina, Strassed by me
Necklace: Ben Amun

I have to talk about my necklace. I discovered Ben Amun a while back and fell in love. Like OMG, in LOVE. And then saw the price tags! Oops!!! So I was resigned to gaze from afar. But wait, there is always ebay! Not many pieces pop up, but I found this one for under $20. And it is divine. The quality is fantastic. I have a couple brooches I’ve picked up as well, but have yet to wear. So I’m now stalking several pieces, and deciding what piece I actually want to save up for. It’s just a beautiful line.

And that’s it for now. Stay cool y’all!

Until next time,
