Fashion, Food, Desserts, being a 30-something mom is exciting!

Holiday

August, & How to Travel on Spirit Airlines.

It has been a whirlwind summer, but today I am thankful AND grateful that we got to celebrate my dad’s birthday this morning, after a scare in June. Overall this whole year has been a medical nightmare for our family, and I am hopeful that we are out of the woods for now!

Hard to believe two and half months ago he was in the ICU waiting on a team of neurologists to decide how to operate on the cyst in his brain and drain the excess fluid!

My daughter seems to be better as well, back in February she collapsed at school and experienced temporary paralysis, which was made worse by the poor handling of the situation. We were forced to make some difficult decisions regarding schooling, and this past week was week 1 of a “new schedule” for my remaining school aged children. It’s more parental involvement, but I know my kids will be safe, well educated, and as a parent I couldn’t really ask for much more than that! One of many reasons my blog has been a place of neglect this year!

However I haven’t stopped shopping nor wearing dresses. Still a bit obsessed with Kate Spade (I post a lot on Instagram too). Some recent aquisitions:

This guy is quite a gem too:

The detail on this bag is amazing, I know I love my typewriter bag, but this one takes the cake!  As a baker, well, I’m partial to anything with a French macaron on it.

I recently took a trip to Minesota to pick my oldest son up from summercamp, and had the misfortune of flying Spirit airlines. (Never again!) When you find out 48hrs before your trip that they charge for a carry-on, you get creative! I managed to pack for the whole weekend into one small “personal item”, including the cafe handbag. Some photos:

Just before we landed I unpacked into my handbag and switched my shoes:

I rolled all my clothes and put them in air-tight ziplock bags. In that bag was:

Two cardigans (I wore my big heavy one over my dress, looking very bag lady like!), jeans, sandals, pjs, one dress, one belt, two t-shirts, undergarments, sandals, toiletries, makeup, handbag, phone charger and my noise cancelling headphones. For me to pack that light is quite a miracle! But I just couldn’t justify paying $65 to bring a carryon with me. It became a bit of a challenge!

Here’s some photos, right across the lake is Canada. My son went to Camp Kooch-I-Ching in International Falls, MN. It’s a boys camp, but there is a girl’s sister came somewhere! (They never see each other)

The Coffee Landing, they roast their beans in their front window! They even have mail order. Mmmmmm.

Also hit the Mall of America:

I had last visited when it was 2 years old, and this month they celebrated 25 years! It seemed much bigger back then, I have to say! Lots of back to school shopping was going on when we were there.

Gearing up for the end of summer, and fall is just around the corner. I hope to blog a bit more, once I get into the swing of life.

Until next time,

Jules

Happy Mother’s Day

To my mom, and all mothers, Happy Mother’s Day!

My kids made me breakfast:

I think they are still cleaning the dishes tonight! But they did it 100% on their own, I must be doing something right. To my mom, for teaching them how to make eggs, thank you! She has far more patience in the kitchen than I do!

And my youngest baby….who sleeps about 22 hours a day:

Who ever EVER does anything naughty. Nope, he does NOT have a claw in my curtain, no way!

Hope your day was fabulous!!

Until next time,

Jules
PS: I know I’ve been absent. I had major surgery 5 weeks ago, and have been keeping on mainly on Instagram. Recovery has not stopped me from acquiring new things!

Merry Christmas

As the evening ends, just a quick note to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I’ve been trying to keep up some outfit posts on Instagram, however due to some personal health challenges, I have spent many a day in my PJ’s lately! However I did throw together a beautifully dressed Christmas spread….even if I just had PJ’s on all day!

Christmas dinner & desserts:

Christmas breakfast (complete with chaos in the background!)

Christmas Eve we did “small bites”, as my kids had been with my parents at other gatherings I was unable to attend:

All in all, a good feed was had by all! Oh and in Troll News, Rocky bought Roxy a Christmas gift:

I know, I’m so ridiculous! And some recent outfits:

Pants! It’s been unseasonably chilly out here in SoCal (our local mountains are covered in beautiful snow!), and some days, pants are the only option! Especially those windy rainy days!

Here’s to the end of 2016, and the beginning of 2017, which I hope continues on a good upswing! Just maybe give me a few more hours in my day, please!

Until next time,

Jules

17 Hours at Disneyland

That’s right y’all. 17 hours at Disneyland…on a VERY crowded day at that!

But it was so fun! Especially after two days there the week before. Some recent outfits & fun photos:

Wait, who are these two? Rocky has a partner in crime, Roxy!! They like to adventure:

Space Mountain at 9:30pm? YES PLEASE!!

Stealin a cell phone to call an uber to go back to Disneyland? They did that too…

And poor Roxy riding the Jingle Cruise sans Rocky because this troll mama left him in the hotel….I didn’t want to lose them trying to carry both by myself that day…

I know y’all. I’m ridiculous. I made lots of pie and food this week too:

And it’s officially my FAVORITE time of the year…when the screeners come in:

And I can catch up on all the movies I never had time to go see. Instead of shopping (which I have done well with not shopping all weekend!)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jules

Holiday Weekend

Woot! Hello 3-day weekend! I’ve had kind of an interesting week, some major changes happening in my world and when I have things going on I tend to lose myself either in a pair of shoes or baking in the kitchen. This week it was baking! TONS of French Macarons!

Just a few of the many MANY dozens I made. There is something fulfilling about seeing them all lined up!

Yesterday I wore this:

  1. Blouse: Forever 21 (old)
  2. Skirt & Belt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade

And today:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Wrap Dress (circa 2010-2011 I believe? It’s an older one!)
  2. Shoes: Kate Spade (also older, they are a kitten heel)

Did you see that sale is an additional 25% off this weekend online? I have some gift cards, so I may pick up one or two smaller items, but I am limiting myself for the month of September, as I went a LITTLE overboard for the month of August. I have one more big order coming from Kate Spade next week as well. OOPS.

I really need to cull my closet a bit more. I started a “closet” on Instagram ( Right here ) to unload pieces that I no longer wear, use, or items I purchased for someone at the outlets, and then was never paid for them and often times forget to return them. I know holidays are coming and I do have a few NWT items. I still need to bite the bullet and get rid of dresses I know I will NEVER EVER wear, but keep for sentimental reasons. Sigh. I’m totally a fashion hoarder!

Until next time,

Jules

An Update of Sorts

Oh boy y’all, it’s been INSANE! Like “I want to crawl into a hole at the end of each day” insane. Lots of French Macarons, and lots of trips to LA for Dancing with the Stars, plus some amazing shopping trips, add in having 4 kids, and voila! By the end of the day I am just DONE. But here’s a few of my favorite outfits from the last few weeks (and maybe a fun backstage moment from Dancing with the Stars!):

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade (via The Real Real, it’s an older one I’ve been looking for for YEARS!)
  2. Skirt: Vintage (talk about an investment piece….this $6 skirt has gotten so much wear)
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin
  4. Handbag: Kate Spade (Small Rachelle, outlet style, and my favorite bag shape/style)

  1.  Cardigan: Banana Republic Outlet

  1. Dress: Adrianna Papell (Nordstrom rack, under $50)
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin (strassed by me)
  3. Necklace: Kate Spade
  4. And yes, Jodie Sweetin! She’s such a doll, I love her story of redemption and seeing how she is growing as a dancer. The judges were dumb on Monday night, her dance was AWESOME. My fan girl moments are done though, I’ll try to play it cool next week! LOL

  3. Pants: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Christian Louboutin
  5. Handbag & Necklace: Kate Spade

Those are my favorite looks from the last couple of weeks. I still can’t get over the Prada dress find….I know it’s just a simple pink sundress, but I LOVE IT. It was really windy yesterday and it held up pretty well, I didn’t flash anyone!

On a Kate Spade note, new arrivals at the outlets:  (photos were sent to me…I went up to our local one last night but didn’t buy anything)

And flamingo keychains are back! (So don’t get duped on eBay y’all!!!)

And I did French Macarons & Salted Chocolate Chip cookies for the Houston Flagship store….to celebrate the launch of their April collection:

Did you attend Emily’s tea party? Sadly I was in Vegas for a business conference, but I was totally there in spirit! I also ordered a pile of stuff during friends and family weekend…which I shall have to debut at some point.

Until next time,

Jules

Disneyland Day

Most women, ahem, my age (over 30 under 40) tend to enjoy a day at the spa. Being pampered. Me? I prefer a day at Disneyland with a handful of wonderful friends I have met over the last few years. We show up, we cruise the park, hop on a few rides, and EAT! Well, today was a Disney Day! Well, California Adventure to be exact (for me anyway, I didn’t park hop). The weather was spring like and gorgeous, so I wore this:

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade (outlet find 2+ years ago. Back when I would order from Woodbury Commons in NY)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade (this is an older style, 2012-ish?)
  3. Belt: Kate Spade (currently on sale!)
  4. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed in Alexandrite AB
  5. Handbag: Kate Spade (outlet style)

I don’t normally take lots of photos on a Disney day, instead I mainly just enjoy being there. Today we decided to play some arcade games, and I snagged some great prizes (hint: EVERYONE wins at the go fish game!), I actually pulled 3 “medium” prize fish out of the tank today, which netted me 3 of these guys:

I also had many small creatures, to which we created some “Disney Magic” by passing them out to unsuspecting children on Paradise Pier. I brought some home for my kiddos as well….but for the Mickey’s? I gave one to my friend and so I have two left….unsure what will happen to these! But it sure was fun to “win” them!! Yes you have to pay to play, but it was fun and I feel worth every penny. Disney may be pricey, but I feel it’s worth every penny. No one does it like Disney, no one!

I was out of there by 1:30, fighting traffic all the way home. But it was a nice escape from the stresses of the last week. Now it’s off to an early bedtime to finish the “spa” experience!

Until next time,

Jules
