Fashion, Food, Desserts, being a 30-something mom is exciting!

Entertaining

Love Never Dies

I have waited 7 years for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Love Never Dies” to go on tour and come to a theatre near me. Well, this past week that waiting was over!

Due to some interesting circumstances, I was able to attend opening night at the Pantages in Los Angeles. Oh boy. Now, I’ve seen the filmed production they released in Australia, and I’ve obsessively trolled the internets for photos of the tour that is out in North America, so I had a REALLY good idea of which dress to pull out of my closet for this event! Please excuse the photo quality, I often forget about photos when I’m at the theatre, I’m so excited about the production and caught up in the whirlwind that is opening night!

My dress is Eliza J, I picked it up at Nordstrom Rack last year sometime. Of course my shoes are my favorite Christian Louboutin simples that I strassed in 4 different shades of silver & grey crystals.

The Pantages is the perfect setting for this production:

The show plays in LA through the 22, then dances on down to Orange County to the Segerstrom Center (Which I know, because I have tickets for the 28th to see it there.), then leaves Southern California. If you are a Phantom of the Opera fan, go see this one! The costumes and the sets are BRILLIANT.

I know the critics have been not kind. Ignore them. The music is haunting and the power ballad, “Love Never Dies” is INCREDIBLE. The costumes are works of art, you can even see the detail from the “cheap seats”, which I know is not an easy task. The way the set ebbs and flows, you feel like you are in a working production part of the time. I loved it. I felt transported to the early 1900’s, Coney Island, and it was done very tastefully. It’s a unique show, but comes together beautifully.

Do you have a love of theatre? I do! What’s your favorite show? Mine will always be Phantom of the Opera, however I enjoy every show I’ve been privileged to attend!

2018

Wait, it’s 2018?! WHAT?! December was so bananas for me, if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you’ve seen some of my recent adventures. I started December at Disneyland, then hopped over to Disneyworld just before Christmas, Disneyland on Christmas Eve, and really haven’t sat still since! I’ll be back in Florida in less than a month, we decided to skip presents this year and take the kids on a trip instead. Planning for Disneyworld is interesting, but I am holding for a successful second trip.

Some photo recaps, although I’ve been very good so far in 2018, and haven’t purchased anything new. (I think I bought it all in 2017!)

Arlowe is still ruling the house:

I finished 2017 with one of the largest cakes I’ve ever made, complete with a gorgeous sugar cameo!

And then this last week I got to attend the opening night of Aladdin at the Pantages! Still swooning over the spectacular production!! Rajah of course had to attend!

I love random LA wanderers in photos! Adds to the essence of the city. My girlfriend took this, which was so fun:

If you can go see Aladdin? Go! The genie is amazing and the glitz and glitter is over the top fabulous! Visit the merchandise table, they have many things that you will NEED. I love the tote, a HUGE thanks to iHeart Radio for that bit of magic! Perfect for my travels this year!

Happy 2018!!!

Jules

Thankful

This yeah our Thanksgiving looked a bit different that normal. My husband is on a brutal schedule for the foreseeable future, and we are just be-bopping around it as best as we can. Instead of a day, it became a “week” of various events.

Monday we started with our annual Thanksgiving week Disneyland trip….which I wore a ridiculous Disney Christmas dress:

The purse lights up:

Yup, I have officially gone over the edge! Enough to receive a “citation”!! We should back up to the Saturday before, when I popped into Disneyland for Mickey’s birthday, and to meet a friend of mine (Kristin over at Pink Lemons) from Instagram in person…..and picked up the Disney Christmas dress then:

Isn’t she the cutest? Blogging has provided a creative outlet for me, as well as meeting some really awesome people who understand that I need “all the dresses”!!

Tuesday I braved the 90+ degree weather in Los Angeles and cooked a scaled down version of my Thanksgiving spread….hey, tiny apartment, tiny meal right?! We also decorated the apartment for Christmas this year!

Wednesday was spent baking at our main house and preparing to head out to Palm Springs to see my parents….I made pies and iced cookies this year, while my mom pulled out all the stops for a big spread. We had a slight Christmas theme going on…because why not?! My favorite is the sweater cookies, customized with everyone’s name!

Mind you, my sweater was merely for show, as it was in the 90’s and we were running the a/c! My mom and I became “those people” and joined the masses Thursday evening for the shopping extravaganza. We were more like observers, as the deals were not worth the “frenzy”. For us, it was just enjoyable to be at the outdoor mall in November walking around and enjoying ourselves! We did buy some makeup:

Yesterday we popped over to El Paseo in Palm Desert, the weather was gorgeous! We hit Kate Spade, but I didn’t take any photos (oops!). I did try on this gorgeous Oscar de la Renta at the Off Fifth….sadly it was too big and I think altering it down would have ruined the beauty of the beading on the bodice:

I hope it finds a good home! My best “deal” was Kate Spade sheet sets at Nordstrom Rack for less than $40, and the lucky find of a .01 item! For us, “Black Friday” is never about waiting in a line or hunting for some insane deal. It was my mom and I hanging out and thankful that my dad is still here to drive us nuts and take the kids swimming in November! It’s been one helluva year, I am sad it’s almost over, but am very much looking forward to 2018 and whatever it throws at us!

Cherish your loved ones, one never knows when they may be gone. 2017 has been filled with an incredible amount of loss, and we nearly lost my dad, so it truly hits home. I am thankful for our wacky life, two households, endless freeway traffic, and a hoard of kids on a very alternative schedule!

Until next time,

Jules

Merry Christmas

As the evening ends, just a quick note to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I’ve been trying to keep up some outfit posts on Instagram, however due to some personal health challenges, I have spent many a day in my PJ’s lately! However I did throw together a beautifully dressed Christmas spread….even if I just had PJ’s on all day!

Christmas dinner & desserts:

Christmas breakfast (complete with chaos in the background!)

Christmas Eve we did “small bites”, as my kids had been with my parents at other gatherings I was unable to attend:

All in all, a good feed was had by all! Oh and in Troll News, Rocky bought Roxy a Christmas gift:

I know, I’m so ridiculous! And some recent outfits:

Pants! It’s been unseasonably chilly out here in SoCal (our local mountains are covered in beautiful snow!), and some days, pants are the only option! Especially those windy rainy days!

Here’s to the end of 2016, and the beginning of 2017, which I hope continues on a good upswing! Just maybe give me a few more hours in my day, please!

Until next time,

Jules

17 Hours at Disneyland

That’s right y’all. 17 hours at Disneyland…on a VERY crowded day at that!

But it was so fun! Especially after two days there the week before. Some recent outfits & fun photos:

Wait, who are these two? Rocky has a partner in crime, Roxy!! They like to adventure:

Space Mountain at 9:30pm? YES PLEASE!!

Stealin a cell phone to call an uber to go back to Disneyland? They did that too…

And poor Roxy riding the Jingle Cruise sans Rocky because this troll mama left him in the hotel….I didn’t want to lose them trying to carry both by myself that day…

I know y’all. I’m ridiculous. I made lots of pie and food this week too:

And it’s officially my FAVORITE time of the year…when the screeners come in:

And I can catch up on all the movies I never had time to go see. Instead of shopping (which I have done well with not shopping all weekend!)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jules

Week in Review

This past week has been, to put it lightly, late nights and little sleep! Last weekend we shipped the younger 3 kids off to summer camp for the week, and my husband and I took off for a belated anniversary trip. Where did we go? Disneyland! We were worried about the crowd levels, but 4th of July was a magical day at Disneyland! We had a BALL.

We did the Frozen Lunch VIP experience at Carthay Circle and it was nice. I’m still dreaming about those sno-cones! I highly recommend it if you have the time. Food was delicious!

Some outfits from the week:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin

  1. Dress: Kate Spade
  2. Belt: secondhand
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade

  1. Dress: Kate Spade
  2. Belt: vintage
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade

Lots of baking this week:

And of course the biggie this week, a gorgeous wedding last night….cake, flowers and so much more. I have an incredible team and we really pulled it off!

So beautiful, but SO MUCH work. I’m exhausted today!

Until next time,

Jules

July!

Happy July! The month where we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy year round as Americans. How are you planning on spending your 4th of July? My husband and I are in the unique position of being kid-free this year (WHAT?!), and so we are skipping out on anything traditional and I am dragging him to Disneyland for an adult day of adventure. (Poor man, he is a saint) Until then, I still have to be a responsible adult, as I have a wedding looming + several cake orders to prep for before we go!

Today I wore this:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade
  2. Belt: secondhand
  3. Shoes: Jimmy Choo
  4. Necklace: thrifted pearls with a vintage brooch

Speaking of wedding prep….I spent last night sorting candy for the candy bar:

Sigh. I know. I have issues. If only my overflowing closet looked as tidy as these little piles.

Until next time,

Jules
