Christmas in Review

Wow, Christmas 2015, it’s over already?! I admit to staying in my PJs ALL DAY yesterday, it was glorious!!!! We stay home on Christmas, so there was lots of cooking going on here. My schedule has been so packed, I didn’t even finish wrapped until nearly 2am Christmas morning. OOPS!

We actually scaled way back on gifting this year….instead of the normal 15-20 packages, the kids had about 6 each. We sort of followed the “4 things” idea, but I also do “food boxes” for my boys, they love that!!

Christmas Eve we went to my aunt’s house, and I wore this: (after baking 8 pies & countless cookies that morning!)

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Olsen
  2. Belt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed by me

Yes, a new pair of strassed heels! I actually have some projects I am supposed to be working on, but I got the inspiration for these and I couldn’t stop once I started! The shoes were a grey metallic leather to begin with, and I used silver shade, alexandrite, black diamond, Crystal lagoon, and Crystal viridian (all preciosa, except the silver shade). The way these catch the light is INSANE!

Hopefully the video above loads okay! First time I have uploaded one since I upgraded my blog!

Some other highlights from the past week:

 Monday….normal working mom day!

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Secondhand
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Wednesday to attend church (as I didn’t get dressed on Tuesday!)

  1.  Cardigan: Banana Republic (I have 2 or 3 of these!)
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade
  4. Pearls: Thrifted

And finally today, I took my daughter shopping (wasn’t horrible!)

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic (hey, it’s cold and it’s long sleeves!!)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade (they are super comfortable!)

The cats went out to shop too:

Hope your Christmas was Merry & bright! I’m looking forward to 2016, it’s shaping up to be a very busy and rewarding year!

Happy Holidays!

Jules

Holidays!

Oh boy, another week has come and gone. I’ve finally gotten most of my gifts wrapped, but still waiting on some last minute items to arrive (this is so not like me! I’m usually done with everything wrapped around Thanksgiving!!) However, I have kept the “dressing up” game strong lately!

Wednesday….I wore this (I also got my hair done, FINALLY!! It’s been months…I found a new stylist and she’s made my hair what I’ve always wanted, without me giving her much information!!)

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade
  2. Dress: Adriana Papell
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade
  4. Necklace: thrift store pearls with a vintage snowflake brooch.

Thursday was my LAST CHRISTMAS PARTY ever for a kiddo. My youngest is in 4th grade, and it’s the last year in our school they have fun holiday parties. We’ve had the same teacher for 3 of the 4 in 4th grade, so I am thrilled to go and do classroom stuff with her! She’s a gem and I will sorely miss her as a teacher! (But I see her all the time anyway) As I must maintain my “overdressed” reputation, I put this number on: (I picked up this dress recently…but I belted the sweater like that because even the 00 is TOO BIG. I have to take it to the tailor to have it taken in)

  1. Cardigan: Barney’s (big sale last year…I need to see if they have it again. This cardigan has really held up well!)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade (available online)
  3. Belt: Kate Spade (again, available in light blue, navy in stores)
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade (old)

Friday…I took a friend to bingo…which was actually fun! I was WAY overdressed!

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic outlet
  2. Dress: Kate Spade (old outlet version of the Adette dress)
  3. Belt: Kate Spade (currently at outlets for around $20!)
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade (old)

Friday night was our final holiday party (I’m not counting family parties), and I pulled this number out that I bought MONTHS ago….and went for the “ice princess” look:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin strassed in Crystal AB
  3. Handbag: Rajah (also Kate Spade, holiday 2014)

The sequins are actually a matte finish, so adding the sparkly handbag and shoes didn’t make it overkill. It also has pockets, which is great when your at a casino night! We had $500 in chips to start with and at the end of the night I had turned it into $15,800!!! (Play money, but still fun, we had the biggest take of the night!)

Yesterday I threw this on for a Costco run (we went early, it wasn’t that bad)

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade (at outlets right now for under $70)
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed by me.

On my shoes….I love the “Love” flats so much, I have a pair in black, AND I just found another pair last week that I am going to strass like I did these. Undecided on colour, but something wild and crazy I’m sure!

Finally, today….for church, figured I’d get in the holiday season with some BRIGHT attire, even if it is super cold and icky out today:

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade (old…I also have in black and baby pink)
  2. Dress: Kate Spade Hayden (outlet version of the Jillian) *i had forgotten about this dress, tucked away unworn!!!
  3. Shoes: Christian Louboutin strassed by me
  4. Necklace: Kate Spade

Whew….long recap! Hopefully I’ll get back at it more frequently. It’s just been a super super busy season…traveling makes December  rough. Hope you are enjoying your holiday season!

Until next time,

Jules

Holiday Parties

Last week I spent much time in my kitchen prepping what I thought was my last batch of French Macarons for the year (turns out I’m baking again this week), packing and prepping to go out of town, and finally heading to Omaha to attend a whirlwind of parties & socializing! I did manage to pull myself together in the middle of it all!

Some outfit recaps:

  1. Cardigan: Kate Spade
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Secondhand
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

What I wore to fly home Saturday morning (sadly I failed to snap a photo the day I left!)

  1. Cardigan: Target
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Belt: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Friday-day I had intended to wear this skirt with a cardigan, but I sadly left planned cardigan at home, and packed this one instead: (also the only flats I packed!)

  1. Sweater: Banana Republic
  2. Skirt: Kate Spade
  3. Shoes: Sam Edleman

Sunday….in a dress I picked up while in Omaha at the outlet in Gretna:

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic
  2. Dress: Kate Spade
  3. Necklace: Kate Spade
  4. Shoes: Kate Spade

Today….milking the Christmas themed attire:

  1. Cardigan: Banana Republic (4 years ago, holiday…its held up quite well!)
  2. Skirt: French Connection
  3. Shoes: Kate Spade

And finally….the two ensembles I packed for the two events we went specifically to Omaha for.

Thursday night, I pulled out the Madison Avenue dress my husband purchased for me earlier this year:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Madison Ave (I still can’t believe we tracked this one down, and in my perfect size!!)
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simples strassed in Crystal AB
  3. Handbag: Kate Spade (AKA The Muppet)

I also dragged my dark mink coat with me, thinking it would be quite cold, but the weather ended up being so mild! It was nice to have, as evenings with the wind were quite chilly.

Friday night was the black tie affair, which I had found out about when we were in Phoenix earlier this year, finding this dress the very next day tucked away in a Dillards sale rack! At first I thought it was maybe Alice & Olivia, but whatever brand it was, I will never know! The tag was gone inside and it just had a generic price tag on it. But the moment I put it on, I knew with the addition of straps and the right belt & accessories it would be spectacular! The belt I found just a couple of weeks ago, the clutch back in November, and the jewlery I already had (necklace & bracelets are all Ben-Amun)

My husband and I had a wonderful time, and I loved my ensemble. The dress also had pockets! Not my typical “sparkly” look, but sometimes one must change it up a bit!  We have one more party to attend later this week, and then I shall put my fancy party wear away for a bit. (Kidding!)

Happy Holidays! Are you ready for them? I’m getting there…I am sorely behind this year though, eeks!

Until next time,

Jules

And finally, the first holiday party ensemble of the season! Some friends of ours invited us out to Los Angeles for the Delta LAX Christmas Party….we had a ball! And of course after agonizing about my dress/shoes (my bag was easy!), here’s the end result:

  1. Dress: Kate Spade Emma, holiday 2013
  2. Shoes: Christian Louboutin, strassed by me.

My husband and I got a really nice photo of the two of us, but I’m saving it to go on the family Christmas card (which I still need to order!!). We had fun. I felt like it was a great warm up to the two parties we have later this week. I may be remiss in posting this week, but my Instagram, Katespadegirlblog, is kept fairly up to date!

Meanwhile, back to this:

Bagging & tagging 100’s of French Macarons!

Until next time,

Sad Day

I know I rarely touch on politics or world events on here, but tonight my heart is heavy. As our country faces another senseless loss, I admit this is the first one that REALLY hit close to home…probably because it’s not all that far from where I live, because I’ve been at that intersection more times that I can count, because I know people who work at that facility on certain days, and because I know so many who work in law enforcement that were there on scene today. It’s senseless, awful, and heartbreaking.

I know I held my little ones closer today when they came home from school, and dreaded the discussion with them about what happened. They knew already (they don’t have social media, but their friends do!), and it sure is interesting to see the opinions kids have even at such a young age. It’s not a conversation I wanted to have with them, but it is one that is important. We live in dark times, and they need to be somewhat prepared.

So hold your loved ones a little tighter tonight and be thankful for another day on this earth. Know God’s plan, while we may not understand it, is working all around us. My condolences to anyone facing a loss today, my heart and prayers are with you. May you find peace among the turmoil of the coming days.

With a very heavy heart,

Jules

Oh December, we meet again. How joyful will you be this year? I know I’m starting out bright and sparkly this month!

I got a sneak peek at new arrivals too…prepare your bank accounts, there are some exciting new things for December!!!! As for that large bag…it was mostly an empty box, but I did purchase two item, one which will be going under the Christmas tree from my husband. The other is the final piece of the puzzle for my black tie attire for an upcoming party:

Squee!!! I won’t share anymore, but I am excite for the entire ensemble!

Until next time,

Jules
