Fashion, Food, Desserts, being a 30-something mom is exciting!

Archive for January, 2015

It’s Monday, and I survived the dentist. Honestly, they had me under twilight anesthetic, and let me pop my ear buds in. So I had music not the drill, and I do believe I fell asleep!!! Best resting ever since.

I did have to work before though, and I wore this:

Cardigan: Kate Spade (eBay find, I do believe it’s a sample piece. I LOVE IT)
Skirt: Vintage
Shoes: Kate Spade (super amazing eBay find, under $20!)

Hope your Monday was lovely! I’m not horribly uncomfortable this evening, just taking precaution and going to bed early to rest. I feel confident in the dentist and our revised treatment plan, it’s a little unconventional, but then again I am unconventional!!

Oh and I have totally blown no-shop January. After selling a TON of stuff on eBay this past month (well over $1,000!), I finally spent a bit and picked up a dress that was on my wish list, a Jillian dress for way way way less than I expected to find this particular one for. And then I had credits on The Real Real, and ordered a dress that my husband said last night he regretted me returning last year. (But after my credits and discounts it was under $20. And I paid with eBay sales $$) Overall, I have still made MUCH more than I spent in selling clothing this month, and I have a huge pile of more items to list this coming week. It feel good to send off my unloved treasures to what will hopefully be a well-loved new home. I’m also sticking to stricter shopping “rules” for 2015, buying shoes that I know won’t hurt my feet, and dresses that I know flatter my figure and that I know I will wear.

Until next time,

Pretty in Pink

Today, as I pulled out a poofy pink dress, I realized I have nearly a dozen UNWORN dresses in my closet. Oops!!! But alas, I will wear them, one day. (Isn’t the first step to admit you have a problem??????) This one was NOT on my “buy” list at all. In fact it’s been on sale for months and I’ve always gone “naw, I have the pink Roset dress, they are the same colour” and passed.

Then it showed up on super sale, in my size. The husband said “buying it, if you hate it you can return it”. (He decided he loved it. Why I ever question him, I do not know) Well, low and behold, that funky side bow isn’t quite so funky after all! (It’s also hard when you can’t find a photo of anyone else wearing the dress and your local Neiman’s never carried it) AND its a different shade of pink than my Roset dress. It’s more of a rose pink vs the bubblegum pink.

Sadly it was too chilly today to wear it sans cardigan, but not chilly enough to break out my fur coat (which, let’s face it, would have been spectacular!)

Cardigan: Kate Spade (3+ years?)
Dress: Kate Spade (Neiman Marcus exclusive. Sold out, but does pop up if you watch the sale section.)
Shoes: Kate Spade (Saks Fifth Avenue Exclusive, Holiday 2013)
Necklace: eBay

I wasn’t feeling cheerful this morning, but it was hard to not be slightly cheerful when wearing such a bright colour! I’m really dreading the dentist tomorrow, and the interesting treatment plan we have. Yet also thankful it is covered by insurance, something very unexpected. I imagine I will be slightly wonky the rest of this week!!!

Until next time,

Another Saturday, and another adventure! This time it was a treck down to The Grove with my mini-me to a dear friends’s birthday party! My daughter wore pink, and at 10, she’s still at the age where it’s “cool” to match mom (oh heavens I hope that never changes!!! She talks about wanting to raid my closet, I hope it doesn’t change when she hits those teen years!!)

My outfit:

Cardigan: INC
Dress: Kate Spade Hattie
Shoes: Kate Spade (I LOVE these! They need a trip to the spa though, badly!!)

Cake & Ice Cream at The American Girl Cafe:

And some yummy smelling lotion I picked up (gift cards people, gift cards!!), free of all that yucky stuff:

I really didn’t take many photos all day, we were enjoying being “in the moment”. Although I wish I had thought to snap a photo of some of the craziness at The Grove!! Yoga in front of Nordstroms (it was 86 degrees out!!), Lunar New Year decor, and as always, a gazillion tourists!! I’m sure “famous” people were there too (they always are), but I don’t really watch for that. It’s all I can do to walk on those cobblestones without falling flat on my face!! But all in all, a grand time was had by all.

Until next time,

Orange Gingham

Oh the dress I wore today, not exactly appropriate for “winter”, but still, still I put it on in hopes of a warm afternoon.

Um, yeah, that never came. But my car was warm with the heater AND seat heater on! Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and I shall attempt to make a more appropriate winter-weather choice.

Cardigan: JCrew kids
Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Jimmy Choo, Strassed by me

I probably should have this dress taken in, I didn’t realize until I looked at these photos! Oops!!!

Tomorrow I’m heading to LA with my mini-me. Should be a fun adventure. No-shop January has semi fallen by the wayside (in being that I spent some Nordies gift cards. I have been avoiding shops & thrift stores!!), so we shall see if I survive temptation tomorrow!!!

Until next time,

Polka Dots & Blessed Mornings

So last week my husband started a new job, and one of the blessings that came with it, is that it’s only about an 8-10 mile round trip “side trip@ from my morning foray to my office. Which makes it super easy to pop in and drop off cookies on a whim. I mean, that’s a widely duty, right? Bribing co-workers with cookies?! This morning, driving down the desert road I was greeted with this beautiful sight:

I guess the plant was actually generating power this morning, and it was SO cold (28 degrees!), you could really see the steam rising. Now the photo doesn’t have the same effect actually DRIVING towards it does. It was really like I was about to be engulfed by a plume of steam. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

And then I got to see a drone land as I was leaving. No, I didn’t get a photo, as I was too stunned and in awe. NOW THAT WAS TOTALLY AMAZING!! (I’m a super plane geek)

My outfit today:

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Bracelet: Ben-Amun

Until next time,

Oh my, is this week half over? Eeks!!! I wasn’t feeling particularly cheerful today, so I threw on something super bright:

Cardigan: Kate Spade (picked up secondhand at Its a Wrap)
T-Shirt: Banana Republic
Skirt: Topshop (also picked up at Its a Wrap)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

I also started my morning out right, by baking some cookies!! Salted chocolate chip & raspberry-lemon thumbprints:

Mmmmm. Those thumbprints are so good! They have cream cheese & butter in them, so it’s a mix of creamy and crunchy. I really like almond-raspberry, but these were a special request. Still yummy!

Until next time,

Stripes and Teeth

Yes, you read that correctly, stripes AND teeth! Don’t worry, I don’t have photos of my teeth, just confirmation that the past few months of tooth pain and migraines shall be ending on Monday with the dreaded Root Canal. Ugh! Can I run away now?! Or just grab an ice skate and knock it out castaway-style? Hoping his week crawls by very very slowly.

Alas, at least I didn’t LOOK like I had been handed a miserable Monday schedule next week:

Cardigan: Barney’s
Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Kate Spade

My cardigan, belt, and shoes are all a very dark navy blue. I usually wear black with this dress, but decided to live a little today. I know, not terribly exciting, but it made me feel bright and cheerful, considering!

Until next time,
