A BIG Recap

Yes, I have not posted outfits in quite some time, WHOOPS! It’s been a whirlwind week (anyone who follows my Instagram probably has seen some of my travels), and I opted to spend time connecting with my husband vs blogging, & watermarking. And well, I don’t know, while I posted Instagram photos, I just didn’t have the inspiration to post a blog post!!

Anyway. This may be a little long!

Wednesday I tagged along up to Walnut Creek with my husband. We had a grand time, I ate these & slept while he drove:

My traveling attire:

Dress: Kate Spade Lyric
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

We went to dinner up there at Fleming’s (and I neglected any photos!!) and had a grand time. Their steak is SUBLIME. Not to mention their summer promo, book a reservation by August 30, and get a $25 dining credit. Yummy.

Thursday I was on my own. I started in this:

Cardigan: Neiman Marcus Cashmere
Dress: Kate Spade Olivia
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Manolo’s Strassed by me.

I then ended up at an ice rink, all by my lonesome:

An hour and a half of pure private ice. Every skaters dream. Especially when it was $10! (An empty session)

I did visit both the outlet in Livermore & the store at Walnut Creek (Kate Spade), but walked away empty handed. I did however score in Banana Republic, with their crazy sale. Picked up this dress, which I wore into San Francisco that evening (and on the car ride home yesterday!!)

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Dress: Banana Republic
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Handbag: Kate Spade

And today, I’m sporting “Air Force Blue”, as I am hauling around the high school cadets to work (and have to live up to my call sign: Sparkles):

Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

To protect the guilty, I shall not post the photos I took today, however this is what the kids do, run carnival games & pass out prizes:

And I shall leave you with a parting shot of one of the many bridges in San Francisco:

Have a wonderful weekend! I will most likely be posting sporadically for the next week due to my schedule. Kids go back to school in a week & I have to travel for work. Insanity!

Until next time,

Weekend Recap!

I realize it’s Tuesday, and not Monday. Buuuttttt, yesterday was a day to reconnect with some old neighbors from when we lived in Texas, and it was a lot of driving. I forget how it is in Texas, it’s unheard of to drive 2 hours each way for dinner! (Normal here! For where we live anyway)

I didn’t snap an outfit photo on Saturday, but I wore my black & white Adette dress. My daughter and I found some lovely spots!

Sugarfina (where has this been all my life?!)

The American Girl Store (where Caroline Abbot joined our family):

Sunday a friend was driving through town and wanted to go get apple pie. Well, what’s a girl to do?! WHIP ONE UP! DUH!

Give me 3 hours notice and I’ll whip up an almost-from-scratch pie. I did cheat and add fresh slices apples to a single can of pre-made filling (so there would be a combination of crisp & soft apples). My first apple pie actually, and it was DEVOURED! Mmmmm.

Sunday’s ensemble:

Dress: Kate Spade
Belt: It’s a Wrap
Shoes: Kate Spade
Bag: Wise Owl Quinn (Kate Spade)

Yesterday I wore this to work:

Dress: Kate Spade Corley
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Coach (off eBay, about $7)

I did switch out my shoes to my Montana Strassed Louboutins for dinner last night & changed to my navy striped Kate Spade belt. I did not snap a photo. Shoot, we didn’t even snap any photos with our friends! OOPS!

And finally, today:

Dress & Belt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Jimmy Choo
Necklace: Kate Spade

Tomorrow I’m catching a ride with my husband as he has to travel up north for work. Trying to decide if I am going to spend Thursday exploring Walnut Creek area, OR if I am going to hop on the BART and spend the day in San Francisco, explore Union Square, etc. You know, the things not possible when sight seeing with 6 humans under 25!! (When we were in the city last summer)

Have a wonderful day!

Until next time,

Oh yay for Friday! I finished up my cakes for the week, ventured out of my house, and am waiting for the second cake to be picked up before I crash. You see, the car needs an oil change, and the dealership is doing it for free. The one caveat? Since it’s free, no pretty loaner car. And tomorrow is Saturday. Crazy busy day there. So I have a 7am appointment, a little over an hour from my house.

I know, I must be insane. But I plan on taking my daughter with me and making it a “mommy/daughter day”, as it’s really the only day I can pull it off between now and her birthday. Luckily she seems to not care and is thrilled to be going to LA tomorrow to explore. I’m still mapping out our day, I have a few ideas up my sleeve. We shall see where we end up!

My outfit today, another day of my “go-to” summer look:

Cardigan: Target (girls section)
Dress: Kate Spade
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

And the two cakes this week. This one was for a wedding, the bride and groom provided the flowers for me to place on the cake:

And this is for a 1st birthday, a compilation of 3 different cake inspiration photos:

Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time,

Ooooo, it’s one of those days! Normally I take the summer “off” from my cake/wedding business, but this week I somehow ended up with not just one, but two cake orders! Luckily it’s been a slow week for my office job, so I haven’t been stressed not ignoring the family.

But I HAVE been ignoring my wardrobe! Case in point, today. I’m wearing total “slob” clothes (grubby t-shirt and old shorts), due to the 20lbs of fondant (not as much as you would think, it’s heavy stuff!) I’ve made, and will be working with later to finish these two cakes.

However, I do have some fun photos from yesterday afternoon! Some goodies from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale!

This dress & belt:

Kate Spade Emma Dress

This adorable (and completely frivolous) stamp set

I finally caved and snagged this with an old code I found in my email for Kate Spade:

And completely resisted the ongoing surprise sale over there! I was tempted by the pale blue Vail dress, but not enough to pull the trigger.

And lastly, even though her birthday is nearly two weeks away, I wrapped my daughters birthday presents last night.

Why you ask? Well, it’s just a crazy couple of weeks ahead of us, and I figured if I didn’t get it done last night, I would be panicking ON her birthday about finishing it! Because, it has to be pretty, right? It’s so bizarre, this is the first year I didn’t buy her any toys. She’s going to be 10! I still wanted and played with Barbie then. (But then again, I was the nerdy awkward kid/teenager. Kinda still am actually!) Alas, it’s clothes, jewelery, and lip balm. (I will not cave on makeup, yet)

So it’s back to playing with fondant for me. I talked my husband into driving me to Starbucks for a coffee (because the fancy espresso machine collecting dust in my pantry, has NO coffee grounds to go IN it.), as I imagine it’s going to be a late night. I could get used to this “husband home 24/7” thing!

Until next time,

Mid-Week Slump

Oh my, it’s been hot & humid lately! Yesterday I spent the day in the kitchen (oh yay!) prepping & baking for a couple of big cakes this week. Had to start early due to the weather. Needless to say, my attire left MUCH to be desired, as by the end of the day I had chocolate all over my top & skirt (I kind of skipped the “hey wear an apron” step. Oops!) so, yeah. Let’s just forget yesterday ever happened!

Today though, I threw this one to run around with my mini-me this morning. I’m starting her out early on the beauty of thrifting!

Dress: Banana Republic
Shoes: Coach
Handbag: Kate Spade

The shoes have a funny story. I recently found a lot of shoes on eBay, and snagged four pair for $35 (incl shipping) The seller was awesome, as she actually sent me five pairs! So that ended up being $7 a pair! I’ll probably only keep 3 of the pairs (sandals, which is what I was looking for), and pass the heels on to a friend. Even still, fantastic deal!

Goodwill has great deals all summer too. Kids clothing this week was $1.98, and I found some Ralph Lauren dresses for my daughter that were also half off. One had the tags still! Can’t beat that.

Hope you are beating the heat. I’m hanging out waiting on UPS. I have some exciting things coming from Nordstrom!

Until next time,

Monday Musings

Oh my, it’s Monday (DUH), and that means we are on the last half of summer vacation. In three short weeks the kids go back to school! In fact, school activities have already begun.

What I wore today:

Dress: Calvin Klein, under $10
Belt: Anthropologie, $16 on sale (picked it up in Newport this past Saturday, I’ve been eyeing the beaded belts there for ages!!)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Gozul flats (which I have in many many colours, so comfortable!)

No Jewlery today, fighting a migraine, and the weight on my neck makes me even more miserable. We are having the most wretched weather for our area, I just want to crawl into an ice bath and come out when it’s all over.

As I have not heard from the two winners of my giveaway, I have re-chosen using Please email me by this Friday to claim your prize!

New winners:

1. Liz @ Shopping My Closet (comment)

2. Robin (email entry)

Ladies, please email me to claim your prizes!

Until next time,

Adventures in the OC

Today was one of those days, lots of running! I drove the ROTC kids to their event and decided to take advantage of being in Laguna Hills. I mean, it IS summer sale season!

My outfit for my shenanigans:

Dress: Kate Spade Lyric
Shoes: Jonquil Strassed Jimmy Choo Flats
Handbag (not pictured): Kate Spade Wise Owl Quinn

Photos taken while out, as I left the house at 5:45am and it wasn’t quite light enough to get a decent photo!

I started at Fashion Island, checking out the pre-sales in person at Nordstrom, then of course making a trip through Kate Spade, to which I was fairly disappointed! The collection this month, while pretty, just is “meh”. There was a necklace that really caught my eye, but not enough to shell out the price listed on the tag! The concept is great, I just didn’t cRe for the execution of the prints. The Rose print is gorgeous, but the dress is that viscose blend, and I am just not a fan of that fabric, especially at the price point!

But then I stepped into Neimans. Not a usual haunt for me. And fell in love. With a new brand. Theia. I have never heard of it, seen it, nor tried it on. But this dress was on the sale rack and the colors spoke to me:

It’s pink, two shades of red, has pockets, and is just a well constructed dress.

I also tried this one on, from their current collection:

I tried these other two on, the pink one is Carmen Marc Valvo, and the green/blue one is also Theia. The CMV was HUGE on me. The smallest size they had in store was a 2 (it’s on the last call sale rack for an incredible price), and it probably needed to be taken in 5-6″. I was really disappointed as I LOVED it. Great shape, love the length, and it had pockets! I’d not tried on CMV before, so it’s a brand I’ll keep an eye on. I just didn’t feel tailoring it would be good, I have found tailoring THAT much on a dress tends to change the shape too much. My opinion, I know gals who will tailor 4-6 sizes down and be happy with the result.

But Theia, oh my. It’s a brand I have fallen in love with (sorry Kate Spade!). Which is why this one came home with me: (pictured next to my Hattie dress that arrived last night)

My husband wasn’t as excited as I was, which really surprised me!! I think it’s so very different from the Kate Spade dresses he loves, because of the texture and detailing. It was something different and unexpected! I also loved the blue one, (not on sale) but not enough to justify that price tag!!

That was my biggest excitement today, that dress. I then scored some Lilly Pulitzer at a goodwill (that evens out the dress purchase, right?! Lilly for $2.50???), and finished shopping for my daughter’s birthday which is in a couple of weeks. She’s at that age where she wants clothing. (Yay!) She hasn’t started putting Kate Spade on her wishlist yet, but I know it’s looming. She’s going to be 10! She actually has one already, an old black Claire bag I picked up for under $5 earlier this year. Oops!! Hey, in a house full of boys, we have to band together!

Since I have yet to hear from the two entries from my latest giveaway, I will re-draw two new winners tomorrow and post them. Good luck! Those pretty accessories need a better home than in a pile on my floor!!

Hope your weekend is grand! I’m off to relax and unwind after today.

Until next time,
