Mid-Week Musings

Whoops, another crazy week around here, and I have once again neglected my blog! Well, really this week I’ve neglected just about all social media it seems!

I have been fighting a cold-ish thing since Christmas and on Monday finally broke down and headed to the Dr. Something I had been loathe to do for several reasons, one being we have switched from a standard insurance provider to a HMO, Kaiser. I’ve heard mixed reviews about our local Kaiser, and well, I don’t always have the best of luck with Drs! But I must say, it was a wonderful experience!!! They have a kiosk to check in & pay, and when I got to the waiting area, they were waiting for me!! The Dr came into my room in less than 5 minutes, and I was out of there completely WITH a trip to the in-house pharmacy in under 40 minutes.

It was brilliant. My husband and I are now kicking ourselves for not switching last year! Oh well. Now we know. I was assigned a lovely Dr, and while I didn’t see her Monday, I did meet her. She’s willing to handle all my ongoing medical needs, no specialist or trip 45 minutes away required! And my copay is less than half. So, in the middle of our huge health insurance nightmares here in the states, I must say I’m quite pleased with our new insurance.

Anyway, I’m now the proud owner of antibiotics, and other modern medicines to heal quicker. I suppose next time I won’t wait 5 weeks. Usually I can kick it though! As I get older I find it harder, I also think my arthritis plays a factor. But as people tell me “you don’t look sick!”, and no, I don’t, I do my best to hide it.

Some outfit recaps from this week:

Cardigan: Target
Skirt: French Connection
Shoes: Kate Spade

Sweater: Kate Spade
Pants: Banana Republic
Shoes: Jimmy Choo (squee!! I had Strassed my previous black pair in Siam, excited to have found these on eBay recently!!)

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Skirt: thrift
Shoes: Christian Louboutin

And I believe that’s it for now. Hope to keep up the rest of this week. I am finally starting to feel like myself again. I do consider it extremely awesome the kids didn’t catch this. My dr said I wasn’t really contagious. Other than to myself! I.E. I need to learn when to rest and stop pushing myself.

Until next time,

Hooray for Friday!!

I must admit, I’m not normally the “TGIF” type person, but this week? Totally!

Anyway, I wore this today:

Cardigan: Target (little girls’ section. I bought my daughter a matching one! This is a 10/12, their clothing seems to run quite large!)
Skirt: Anthropologie, but I bought secondhand
Shoes: Strassed Manolos I did earlier this year

And then I came home to a package! Last week a company, Corilynn was having a sale. I couldn’t resist. This skirt CALLED my name! The length, the fact that the size I ordered is my waist measurements exactly. It was magic. And then it arrived:

The anchors just make my day!! I’m super excited to style this skirt, soooo many possibilities!

Here’s a close up of the fabric, it has a really neat underlying print that wasn’t noticeable on the website:

So very very pleased! I especially live the length, as I’m sure y’all realize, I tend to gravitate towards a skirt/dress that covers my knees. This is a personal preference for me, I just feel since I have a son in high school (and a rapidly growing up daughter!), I should set a good example! It makes me sad to see these young girls wearing all these skimpy clothes, when a more classic dress would be so much more flattering! Plus I mean, really, some things should be kept, ahem, private. There is just too much skin and provocative temptations in our society!!

Okay, off my soapbox. I have cupcakes to make tonight and I should probably get cracking. First order of 2014! Luckily it’s a small one, as January/February is so crazy at my job (tax season), adding big events/orders isn’t smart. Why stress myself out?

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Until next time,

All Dressed Up

What a Thursday I had! I started this morning off cooking for bible study, as it was my week to bring food. However, my children have been home feeling unwell all week, and so I dropped the food and came home to spend the day with them.

I did leave a present for my table ladies though:

And I wore this:

Cardigan: Kate Spade (an early valentines present!)
Skirt: JCrew (thrifted)
Shoes: Strassed Christian Louboutin done by Joey of Redo My Shoe

And then this evening I busted out my $4 thrifted Abaete dress and my fur, and got all dressed up and went out with my husband:

Dress: Abaete (a now defunct clothing line. Retailed for over $500 new)
Belt: Vintage, $1 @ local thrift shop
Shoes Crystal AB Strassed Christian Louboutin simples
Clutch: Escada (purchased at It’s a Wrap)
Bracelets: diamond tennis bracelet + costume pearl piece from a friend
Fur: Dark Ranch Mink, given to me by a dear friend almost 4 years ago.

All in all, a good day!! Now I just need another occasion for the dress! I LOVE it!

Until next time,

Hump Day!

Wow, already halfway through the week. Although I have to admit I feel like it should be Friday!

My outfit today:

Cardigan: Kate Spade
Skirt: H&M
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Handbag: Kate Spade

This afternoon I settled down to a little crafting for tomorrow’s bible study session. I meant to do this for LAST week, but with work being so busy, it didn’t happen. So excited about these little DIY candles!!

So easy too! Clear votive candles, sparkly stickers, and voila! I’m pulling out a super fun sparkly table cover to use as well.

One thing I wanted to mention this week, 55 Thousand Dresses in LA is having a warehouse sale this weekend! Pop on over to their site for more details! I would like to go, but My husband and I have a date with some cars instead. Who wants a car when you can buy 55 THOUSAND DRESSES?!

Hope your Wednesday is fabulous!

Until next time,

Red, White, & Blue

Hey, when a girl has to go to traffic court, it pays to be patriotic, right? Okay, well, perhaps it pays to stay off roads where awful CHP officers hang out, however drive and learn I suppose? (And well, 1st ticket in 16 years, I suppose I shouldn’t complaint too much. Payback for all the times I was super speeding!!) I did have my fine reduced to 1/3 the original fee, and can take whatever traffic court I wish. The officer who wrote the ticket apparently checked every box to make it as difficult as possible! The judge was lovely though. So I paid my fine, will motor on through traffic school (first time EVER!), and watch my speed very very VERY carefully in that particular area!

Lesson learned! And done while looking rather smart if I may say so myself:

Cardigan: Kate Spade (secondhand)
Blouse: Banana Republic outlet (sale, around $10)
Skirt: Vintage made in Italy for Giorgio Beverly Hills (snagged at my local Goodwill yesterday for $2.50. So much for a shopping ban!!)
Shoes: Jimmy Choo
Necklace: Target
Belt: Thrifted (and I looked at it tonight, it’s actually dyed snakeskin! Paid .50 for it. SCORE!)

And for fun a sneak peak from my Instagram teaser tonight. My husband and I have a black tie event this week, and EVERYTHING I am wearing is secondhand in some way (eBay, thrift, it’s a wrap), and of course my shoes are DIY.

I’m still researching the dress, it appears to be a now-defunct clothing line. I thought it was MaxMara at first, but it’s Abaete. I can’t find the same exact piece other than the runway photos, but retail on that brand appears to have been $450-$700. So, $4 was a steal!!! Well, $7 really, as it was $3 to have it cleaned, steamed and one small repair (my dry cleaner didn’t charge for the small zipper repair. I suppose that means I have been spending too much $$ there recently!!). Still it’s like 99% off!

Anyway. Off to bed, 5:45am comes awful early!

Until next time,

Monday Monday….

While many had today off in honor of Martin Luther King day, I sadly had to trudge into the office(okay, I wasn’t really complaining!). After a morning of dentist appointments with the kids (ew! Anyone else really dislike the dentist? Even as a bystander??), off I went wearing this:

Sweater: Kate Spade
Skirt: vintage
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simples

Simple yet striking! I really loved the pop of my shoes.

Anyway, off to bake tonight and plan my outfit for tomorrow. I have to go to court tomorrow, and figure I need something conservative! Eeks. Fighting a non-deserved traffic ticket. So stupid really. Wish me luck! (I’d be happy with traffic school, let’s hope they let me take it. First ticket in over a decade, and I wasn’t even doing what it says!!! Frustrating)

Until next time,
