Happy Friday!!

Well, a recap of the past few days…..we’ve been prepping for a trip up to San Francisco all week, along with a memorial party for my grandfather, and here it is Friday, and I haven’t blogged all week!! Whoops!

Tuesday…..I went to work:

Then when I got home I took the kids I the library:

Then came home and whipped up some French Macarons:

Wednesday we went up to Lake Arrowhead for my grandfathers memorial party. I wore a dress (oooo, cheating!!!):

Of course I made a cake and the Macarons and failed to take a picture!!!! Whoopsie. It was a beautiful day up there.

My sister, daughter and a friend all took the trek up to the Ice Castle International Training Center in Lake Arrowhead for a skating session. I didn’t snap many photos this time, my sister was actually filming my feet, which was kind of cool. Makes me want to practice more to regain some of my “tricks”!

20130726-080703.jpg

Photos from my drive home, it was lovely. My kids stayed to camp, so I was truly alone, and was able to really enjoy myself!

20130726-080814.jpg

Yesterday I stayed home to clean, do laundry and work on packing. Yes, this is how I clean house:

20130726-080854.jpg

Top: Kohls
Skirt: Bob Mackie

I then wrapped presents:

20130726-080926.jpg

And changed my skirt because it was super windy and I had to run out and pick up my dry cleaning. The Engineer needed his suit, as our trip next week is for another funeral, this one a proper military one.

So, my skirt last night:

20130726-081101.jpg

Florida Skirt by Basil & Maude

And finally today. I have a million errands, it’s already blazing hot, and so I’m cheating with a simple dress. It was easy and I’m not taking it with me, so it’s fine to stay behind in the dirty pile!

So, off and running I go! Hope you have a fabulous Friday!!

Until next time,

Jules

Monday Party Time

What a fun weekend, it’s been humid, we’ve had rain, and frankly I feel as if I’m living back in Texas instead of Southern California!! I’m very much over it!

Anyway, what I wore on Saturday:

20130722-092055.jpg

20130722-092109.jpg

20130722-092124.jpg

20130722-092135.jpg

Top: Kohls
Skirt: thrifted (I think it’s an Anthropologie brand)
Shoes: Jonquil Strassed Jimmy Choo flats
Handbag: Kate Spade Claire ($3 @ Goodwill!)

And my normal vintage Omega watch with a Tiffany & Co bracelet

Then later in the day (as The Engineer and I spent all morning doing errands, hitting garage sales and poking around houses for sale), I changed and put this skirt on with a white t-shirt:

20130722-092407.jpg

Skirt: Ann Taylor (off eBay)

Yesterday I spent the entire day at home. We all did. But I kept to wearing a skirt, working on wearing as many as possible this month!

20130722-092539.jpg

20130722-092549.jpg

20130722-092600.jpg

Top: Kohls
Skirt: from a friend, no idea!

And then today, I have coined my ensemble as “The Mullet”, business on top, party on the bottom!!

20130722-092834.jpg

Top: thrifted
Skirt: Chloe
Shoes: Multi-Colour Strassed Manolo Blahnik
Handbag: Kate Spade

Normal “jewels” & watch.

So, here I am 22 days into a 30 day challenge. With changing some days, even wearing dresses a couple of times, I have worn 25 skirts in 22 days!! Of course I own way more than 30 skirts, but it has taught me to downsize a bit! I’ve been selling stuff on eBay, and adding some investment pieces that will last forever. Sadly we are leaving this weekend for a summer trip, so I will not make my 30 day challenge, but I imagine by Saturday I’ll be at 30 skirts anyway!!

Have a lovely day! Me? It’s a day of drs appointments with the kids, school starts in two weeks! Must get prepared!!

Until next time,

Jules

Week in Review

Woah, I just realized I haven’t posted since Monday!

A recap of the past few days….it’s been a busy busy week!

Tuesday:

20130720-092401.jpg

20130720-092411.jpg

20130720-092421.jpg

20130720-092433.jpg

20130720-092442.jpg

Blouse: Unknown from It’s a Wrap in Hollywood
Skirt: from It’s a Wrap in Hollywood
Belt: thrifted
Shoes: Montana strass Christian Louboutin Simples
Handbag: Kate Spade, off eBay
Necklace: Juicy Couture

It’s a wrap is this awesome store in LA, they sell clothing from movie sets! I have quite a few items from there. They tag their clothing with what TV show/movie/reality show they are from. Right now they have TONS of costumes from Dancing with the Stars, albeit terribly overpriced. It’s fun to take friends there and see what we come up with. I’d say the pricing is somewhere between a thrift store and a consignment shop, and pricing also seems to depend on the set the piece came from. It’s worth a look, but I recommend allowing at least an hour to “dig”. I rarely walk away empty handed.

Wednesday, I took my daughter ice skating (something I did on a whole other level over a decade ago!), it’s always fun to take a spin and then realize how old I have gotten!! My outfits from before skating (yes I changed!), including my falling off the skirt wagon:

20130720-093057.jpg

Cardigan: Forever 21
Blouse: Old Navy
Belt: Thrifted
Skirt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Siam AB Strassed Nina Jellies
Handbag: Kate Spade

Some photos from the ice rink, including one of my father, who hold the “Pot Bellied Pops” Title (back in the 90’s we added that category to our HUGE summer competition for some comic relief. My dad won the last year they had the event. I dressed him, picked his music and choreographed his program. It was fairly epic. I’m hoping the video is hiding somewhere still!!!). On another note, my daughter is wearing my first competition dress! Of course she wanted hot pink tights, but still. So adorable. As for me, I can still wear my outfits from 14 years ago (and skates!!!) but have invested in what I feel is appropriate for a mom to wear: black leotard, black skirt, and black tights! Not to mention, the only pair of boots in my closet!!

20130720-093848.jpg

20130720-093903.jpg

20130720-093912.jpg

I have to say, it’s surreal to go back to the rink I used to train at as an adult. I miss skating terribly, but my arthritis and bad knees prevent me from going too often. I do think I will try and go every few weeks, it is such a good workout!!!

Thursday, I threw on a dress for my sons AFROTC award ceremony, but tossed a skirt on after we got home, to keep up with wearing a different skirt every day!

20130720-094146.jpg

Dress: Calvin Klein
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Montana strass Christian Louboutin

However I redeemed myself by changing when we got home into this:

20130720-094253.jpg

Top: Kohls
Skirt: Olilly

And yesterday I knocked two skirts out of the lineup!

First, to go into the office:

20130720-094422.jpg

20130720-094442.jpg

Top: Kohls
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Violet strass Nina Jellies

And lastly, last night was date night. So in true moi fashion, I got all dolled up!

20130720-094601.jpg

20130720-094608.jpg

20130720-094745.jpg

Blouse: Lauren Conrad for Kohls
Belt: Thrifted
Skirt: Saks Fifth Ave (vintage) with red petticoat underneath
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Handbag: (not pictured) Hermes Birkin
Jewels: necklace:vintage, bracelet:banana republic, earrings:diamond & pearl studs, rings:engagement and right hand diamond rings

Whew. If you made it this far, well, I hope you enjoyed my week (almost) in review along with my mindless drivel. I have realized however, I will not be able to complete my “30 skirts in 30 days” challenge, simply because we are leaving in a week for a 9-day road trip, and being fashionable is doable, but I have limited space in my luggage, so I shall have to repeat and pack items than can be multi-use. But, until we leave, I’m sticking to it! I even have the skirts (and dresses now!) separated in my closet.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time,

Jules

Green!!!

That’s right, green!!!! I wore something other than a variation of blue yesterday AND today!

Yesterday’s ensemble:

20130710-102311.jpg

20130710-102317.jpg

20130710-102323.jpg

20130710-102329.jpg

Blouse: Banana Republic (I am ashamed to say this is over a year old and had never been worn!!)
Skirt: I.N.C., thrifted
Belt: thrifted
Shoes: Christian Louboutin (these are so comfortable!!)
Necklace: chain from the clearance section at Michaels (really to make Jewelery)

And then today, I am bumming around my house in this:

20130710-102507.jpg

20130710-102513.jpg

Top: plain tshirt from Target
Skirt: Signature by Larry Levine, thrifted

No shoes, no jewelry, just “bum” mom hanging out at home. I am attempting to catch up on administrative stuff and hopefully get some more done on my new business venture. It’s hot as hades here lately, and my arthritis is kicking me very hard the past couple of weeks. It’s hard living with a chronic condition, especially on bad days. But I refuse to wear pjs all day long, so I attempt some type of effort. Even if my hair looks awful!!!

Luckily my kids are happy to watch the telly all day, so I am grateful for that. I suppose I have taken them to Disneyland quite a bit this year, at least enough to earn a week (or two!) of “do-nothing” days. This is actually the last quite week until they go back to school, so I am taking advantage!! Next week is a flurry of ROTC camp, summer drs appointments and the start of back-to-school shopping! 3 and a half weeks until they go back, Eeks!

I’m excited for a late summer trip up north in a couple of weeks, I hope to have some fun things to share. I am also planning to keep up my 30 skirts in 30 days challenge, so far I’ve made it. *cross fingers*

Until next time,

Jules

Seeing Spots

Oh boy, do I have a problem, spots! Okay, well maybe just a case of “I wore navy & white polka dot skirts two days in a row”. In my defense, I did not leave my house yesterday. At all. I didn’t even wear shoes! (Okay, maybe my house flip flops to run into the garage, but really, does that even count??)

Yesterday:

20130708-105343.jpg

20130708-105350.jpg

Top: White t-shirt from Kohls
Skirt: JCrew, thrifted

And today I present:

20130708-105431.jpg

20130708-105437.jpg

20130708-105443.jpg

Top: Target
Skirt: vintage from 55 Thousand Dresses
Belt: Old Navy
Shoes: Kate Spade

Yes, I have worn this exact outfit (perhaps with different shoe/belt combinations) several times in June, however it is it’s first and last appearance in July! Promise! I’ve been putting worn skirts in a pile of sorts, to ensure I do not repeat. Lets hope it works!

Anyway, off to the library we go, it’s hot and they keep it “I need a cardigan” cool in there! Plus I have some mail to post. We got the house all sorted out yesterday and all the stuff from Saturday put away, so it really is a bit of a “clean slate” Monday morning! No laundry pile!!

Until next time,

Jules

Recap

The last few days have been a whirlwind!!! I had a rather large wedding, well maybe just super detailed this weekend and the fun started bright and early Friday morning with a trip to the flower market.

My outfit Friday:

20130707-100011.jpg

20130707-100022.jpg

20130707-100033.jpg

20130707-100042.jpg

Blouse: thrifted
Skirt: off eBay
Shoes: Strassed Christian Louboutin flats

And then yesterday, I wore this, because as a wedding designer, one must dress up:

20130707-100207.jpg

20130707-100217.jpg

20130707-100226.jpg

20130707-100235.jpg

Jacket: Banana Republic
Blouse: Nanette Lepore
Skirt: Kate Spade
Shoes: Montana Strassed Christian Louboutin

Hey, we had tons of running around, of course I’m going to wear the most comfortable shoes. *grins* Actually they are one of my most comfortable pairs, my legs are stiffer than my feet are sore this morning, merely because we were up and down stairs all afternoon.

Some shots from the wedding:

20130707-100434.jpg

20130707-100503.jpg

20130707-100442.jpg

20130707-100448.jpg

20130707-100528.jpg

20130707-100548.jpg

20130707-100606.jpg

Me and my team did all the decor, and the specialty linens. And the candy bar of course! I did not get photographs once the tables were fully set and the candles were lit, but it was STUNNING.

And my personal favorite, we snagged the key to the bridal suite, got housekeeping to clean it up and added some special touches:

20130707-100740.jpg

We actually placed flowers all OVER the room, along with candy from the candy bar, a dessert plate and wine from their ceremony. We were just in a rush and forgot to snap photos! But perhaps that is better, it’s a nice private memory for the bride and groom.

Love my job and my crew! Now the cleanup begins!! Laundry and my house is a disaster!! But we have plenty of spare candy.

Until next time,

Jules
