Fashion, Food, Desserts, being a 30-something mom is exciting!

Archive for March, 2012

This afternoon I decided to make pizza for dinner! It’s always a happy event, I make it from scratch, and personally, I think my crust (after 50+ bad pizzas!!) is as good or better than a local pizza joint we like.

I did mini pizza for 3 of the 4 children, so they got to choose their own toppings:

My husband and my eldest like “everything” pizza. Although I wa out of onions and olives, oops!!

And moi? I like pepperoni, pineapple, an jalapeños on mine (but I didn’t have any jalapeños!! I’ll have to put red pepper on it!)

Mmmm. Yummy!

Until next time,

What I’m wearing

Today I’m feeling, rather patriotic! Well, minus the white, however I feel I have pale enough skin, my skin will count! (note, I do not try to tan, use self-tanner, get burned, etc. I have decided to be at peace with my lily-white fair skin. Lots of sunscreen and hats!!)

The Rundown:
Blouse: Old Navy, $3.98 on sale
Cardigan: Forever 21, $1.99 on sale (it had a seam that was falling apart. 5 minutes with a needle and thread, and voila! Tres perfection!)
Skirt: Banana Republic, $34 on sale
Shoes: Jimmy Choo, $50 on eBay
Handbag: Gift from a friend after the one I bought got lost in the mail. (okay, I did send her some makeup in return!!)
Belt: thrifted, $1

My jewelry today is real, and rather boring, so I’m not going to take pictures. 🙂

Close up of my shoes:

And bag (yes, I love that scarf right now! Bought it at Casual Corner 12 years ago!!)

An we are off! I need to buy more almonds to make more Macarons! You know, for me, I mean for Easter!

Until next time,

What I’m wearing

It’s going to be another gorgeous spring day! But it’s a tad chilly this morning, so I must start the day with a cardigan!

Dress: Alannah Hill, eBay (Alannah Hill is only sold in Australia, think Nanette Lepore, but edgier!)
Cardigan: Banana Republic, $16, on sale, with codes & rewards!
Necklace: Kate Spade Crystal Corsage (don’t remember how much)
Shoes: Miu Miu, $25 on eBay
Bag (not shown above): Yellow Kate Spade Maryann, $50 on eBay

The bag I’m going to carry (my “pop” o color)

Up, dressed and ready to go meet my friends who are going to receive my “macawrongs”!

Until next time,

Macarons and Macawrongs

Well, after my success yesterday, I decided to tackle Lemon & Vanilla Macarons this afternoon.

About half came out right, and the other half, well, they were macawrong! But still yummy.

Macarons (tres perfection! In my book anyway!)

And my macawrongs(but still delicious, crisp, chewy, yummy yummy!!)

So I decided to have fun and go with it. Why not, right? They still taste amazing!

We have tags:

And then bags (4 for $1 at Target)

And now I have lovely Easter gifts for some friends I shall see tomorrow morning!

The pink are vanilla with an organic strawberry compote filling, and the yellow are lemon-flavoured with a lemon curd filling. I just love the colors, and my favorite is still the pale blue almond ones I made yesterday.

It’s true what they say, these cookies get better with age! Like moi!

Until next time,

What I’m wearing

First, please excuse the poor quality pictures, I blog from my iPhone, and I’m a novice with my camera still! (especially pictures of me!!)

So, my first “outfit of the day” post! First the picture:

Blouse: Lauren Conrad for Kohls $4.76
Cardigan: Target, $3.98, plus vintage buttons I added.(had those)
Skirt: Kate Spade Holly Skirt in raw silk $60 @ the outlet
Belt: $2 at Salvation Army
Shoes: Miu Miu, I traded MAC cosmetics for these with a friend of mine back east. <;;3 them!
Necklace: Vintage, was my Nana's, it's from the 50's.

Here's a closeup of the necklace

And my shoes:

I’m going to carry this bag I snagged on eBay for $50, Kate Spade Maryanne in grey:

And what will I be doing on this lovely spring day you ask?

Taking my children to that kiddie pizza place. Hey, momma likes skeeball too!

Until next time,

Mmmmm, I have a new love, macaron cookies! Not the American coconut ones, the French pastry ones!

It took 4 tries (and 3 failed batches!), but I got it right. Delicious!

I made them in almond with almond white chocolate buttercream. So delicious! And gluten free!! I really should be careful with my gluten intake, but I do love my breads!

The batter, looks good!

All lined up, my piping skills need work, but not bad!

In the oven, success! Nice shell and feet!

And finally after two days of fiddling with recipes, measurements (a kitchen scale is essential!!), voila! gorgeous pale blue Macarons!

I love the color, in fact it’s the color of my kitchen walls and my bedroom walls! Such a pale, soothing blue, love it!! In fact I was so convinced of my success today, I even wore pale blue earrings. (blue topaz, $9.99 with a matching pendant on 1SaleADay)And they just taste, well, incredible! I’m trying to talk myself out of, oh, cookie number 7 or 8 right now?

I’m going to tackle another batch tomorrow, as I have egg whites aging on the counter. My husband will be enjoying creme brûlée in the next week, all those yolks!

Until next time,

Beauty Staples

A few beauty staples I swear by. As in, I would pick them if I was stuck in a desert island!

L’Image VitalC creme. Best moisturizer I’ve ever used, hands down! On my 4th pot in 2 years. Worth every penny, especially when I get carded for lottery tickets!!

Oil of Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion treatment. Wow, does this make my skin fresh! I use it about once a month.

Artistry Essentials Mascara in black. I’ve used countless mascara over yr years, and this is the only one I’ve bought as many times as I have! (I’ve been through about 9 tubes now) The best for its price point (under $20)

Out The Door Topcoat, <;3 this!! Dry nails in 60 seconds? Yes please!

MAC pigments. A small glimpse into a huge problem! 🙂 I haven’t bought any in years, they last forever!!!

Guerlain Meteorites, perfect to “finish” you face. Plus they are tres gorgeous containers!

And my most used beauty staple? Gold Bond lotion. I have such dry skin, I go through buckets of this! If only I could get a bulk discount!!

My favorite shampoo and conditioner, the smell, it’s divine

And I recently discovered BB Cream. I bought the Garnier one because it was fairly inexpensive, and I could get t without driving far or placing and online order. After a week, I love it! I’ve gotten so many compliments!!

So, items I use daily, do you have a favorite beauty product? Out of the above mine is my shampoo/conditioner, merely for the smell. Mmmmmmm

Until next time,
